The hupocrites were the stage players, or actors in Greek theatre.
They wear the apparel of their roles and learn their lines.
How would you cautiously describe them today?

Matthew 23:5. But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their
phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments.

Luke 20:
46 Beware of the scribes, who desire to go around in long robes, love greetings in
the marketplaces, the best seats in the synagogues, and the best places at feasts,
47 who devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. These will
receive greater condemnation.

Romans 3:10-12

As it is written: “None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.”

All should certainly strive to do better.

All should certainly strive to do better.

Paul is making the case that all are sinners no exceptions, all are under Gods wrath and Judgment before becoming a believer.

Do you know in the N.T. those who are redeemed/saved are NEVER referred to as a sinner. That only unbelievers are called sinners.

Believers are called saints, holy ones, righteous, sanctified, set apart etc....

In all the epistles to the churches the Apostles address believers as SAINTS not sinners.

you do not understand Pauls argument in Romans.

I remember that quote, and wore out that CD. Manning was also influential to Rich Mullins,
who came to call his band "The Ragamuffin Band".
As to the unbelieving world, thankfully we are not judged by them, and we do not exist
as an excuse for their unbelief. We are witnesses to His Resurrection, and must strive to be faithful
to that calling, and to one another. I never quite agreed that you can lay the "greatest single cause of
atheism" on immature Christianity, Manning was being a bit dramatic.

Isaiah 26:10. Let grace be shown to the wicked,
Yet he will not learn righteousness;
In the land of uprightness he will deal unjustly,
And will not behold the majesty of the LORD.

Keep encouraging, exhorting, and building up others!

I am glad you pointed this out. We should be aware that everyone "puts on a mask" to some degree.
While everyone is a hypocrite to some degree, only the religious were condemned for it by Yeshua.
We have to strip away our coverings, and put on Christ.

Oh!!! Just imagine Christianity even just without the connotations of WW2 and slavery.

The Atheists, out of the depths of absurdity would have much less hate to apply to Christians.
