• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

It could be - certainly a psychological reaction to trauma
When i have flashbacks it is almost like being there again, experiencing the same feelings, sights, sounds etc...and having trouble holding on to the fact that it isn't real, it's in the past. It generally leaves me shaky and with a splitting headache too!
I think everyone's experience is different, though - whether what you are having are technically flashbacks or not, they are painful, and symptomatic of aunresolved issues.

Are you seeing a therapist or a counselor, sweetie? They would be able to help you develop coping strategies for times like that

when i think of the word flash back I think of Dissociation. When a person has DID and a part of that person is inside they sometimes relive the traumatic experience they went through over and over again. This is real. It's not fun and games. It's not just a memory it is a trauma that keeps on keeping on.
Jesus can you meet you at that place. Ask him to take away from everything you see and place you somewhere safe. Keep saying his name. Even if you have to whisper. But keep calling upon him and he will come.

Thinking about sex is a trigger for you...me too. Sometimes it's bad and can involve flashbacks and sometimes it's like double vision. I'll be thinking about my fiance (husband, really, since we were joined religiously two years ago) and then everything that happened is overlayed on the good thoughts.
