What is a Calvinist

Can someone educate me on what makes a Calvinist Calvinist? I don't know much about the different denominations.

Can someone educate me on what makes a Calvinist Calvinist? I don't know much about the different denominations.

Generally it is a firm belief that the doctrines commonly called TULIP are Biblical and true. Those doctrines are:
Total Depravity- every aspect of man's nature is affected by the Fall and there is no true good in man by nature. Every motive and act of natural man is evil in the sight of God.
Unconditional Election- God the Father in covenant mercy and grace chose a people out of the race of fallen humanity to be the objects of His love, mercy and grace before the world was spoken into existence. He chose them based solely according to His will not based on any conditions or foresight.
Limited Atonement-God the Son in covenant mercy came into this world taking upon Himself humanity and accomplished a complete atonement for the elect actually saving them by His life and death.
Irresistible Grace- God the Spirit comes in power through the preaching of the Gospel and effectually calls the elect sinner to faith in Christ. That call is irresistible and brings every chosen sinner to the feet of the Lord Jesus begging mercy.
Perseverance of the Saints- Every chosen redeemed sinner who has been given life and faith in Christ are kept by the power of God in faith and perseveres by faith until death. Not one of whom the Father chose and gave to the Son, the Son redeemed and the Spirit calls in power can ever be lost.

There are Calvinist Baptists, Methodists and Presbyterians and even a few Calvinistic Pentecostals. Calvinism isn't a denomination it is a theology.
