Would what a lot of Christians call "the anointing" simply be that God has "christened" us as those living by Grace (as Christ, the Anointed One, living His essence in us and through us)? You think???
I think this would be an appropriate application, RP, and beautfully said.
Please note, I am using more scholarly (and intelligent) references like Vine and Palma than merely offering my opinion. What I believe about something does not matter. It is more important that we KNOW what the Bible says than what we think it should say or want it to say. For this, I bow to those who are more knowledgeable of these things than anyone on this forum (probably).

Maybe one way to see it is Billy Graham. Now if you or I stand up there what do you think is gona happen lol. Now just talk to the man when he's at home. It's like two different people.

Sorry RP were out of Teddy Bears but we have a real nice YO-YO.

In Revelation 11 it speaks of the two witnesses, who are the 2 olive trees and the 2 lampstands (some versions say candlesticks), who stand before the God of the Whole Earth, who is also known as the Holy One of Israel (Isaiah and 1 John 2:20). If you check these two out in Zechariah 4:11-14 you find they are the 2 “anointed ones” or “Sons of fresh oil”. The olive trees feed the lampstands’ golden bowl with oil (in which all of the incense from the prayers of the saints also go). So therefore the olive trees (Israel) feeds the lampstand (the Lamb’s church) with the anointing. (Revelation 5:6 and 1:13, 20) Which would perhaps be why Jesus prayed on the Mount of Olives to gain access to it, and enable his prayers to flow freely into the physical. So it would seem to me that the anointing is accessible to all of the church. Unless, of course, it is a church like Ephesus who have left their first love (e.g. love feast fellowship, communion etc) and the candlestick has been removed Revelation 2:4-5.

It would seem to me that all anyone needs to do is to be anchored in the lampstand’s golden bowl to gain access to the anointing oil the Holy One of Israel/ God of the Whole Earth has made available to each of us. Or, of course, you can just ask to become one with the Holy One of Israel (e.g. Lord make us one) who is the source of the anointing. 1 John 2:20.

Anyway this is another way of looking at it.

Thanx, Heather. Very interesting points. As I hope you are saying, in the family of God there are no first-class (clergy, potentates) or second class (laity, peons) members. We are all anointed, whether we are on the stage or in the pew, whether we are demonstrative exhibitionists or whether we sit quietly in the background.

The number one reason I'm not a catholic anymore is the above statement.

Yes, Jim. That is what I meant. Some would just appear to have a greater manifestation of anointing than others, because of their calling.
Because of their calling … hmmmm!, maybe … but they appear to have a greater manifestaion mostly because of their own press releases, projected image, practiced charisma, and photogenic persona. Most of the televangelists I have met are not any more “powerful” men/women than Mr. Average Church-Guy. They just know how to play to the camera. It’s technique; not “anointing”.

I am constantly shocked that they pull it off so successfully.

It is no wonder Christ called us sheep.

Hi Jim,
I totally agree that we are totally dumb sheep! Each person, it would seem to be, has the potential of allowing pride and ego to have a foot in the door. When you become involved in the media machine, I would imagine that it is very easy to be tempted to join in with their "projecting the right image" to the masses. I do not know anything about televangelists, however it seems to me that you are walking into Satan's kingdom when you become involved in the media and music industries, and you should be very aware of that fact before you walk into it. It is so easy to judge others, isn't it, when you do not know what they have had to face or endure not just from that industry, but also from the "viewers".

In mentioning their "calling", I was actually just meaning those aspects of Christ's body who were involved more in the physical activities, e.g. prophets, evangelists, teachers, shepherds etc. Although I guess you are right, that every one of the sheep have the potential to utilise the anointing, whether it be in the spiritual or physical areas of God's kingdom. I'm sorry that I do not relate what I'm thinking into a way that you guys understand.
