Right now I'm reading:

Putting Amazing Back Into Grace by Michael Horton
Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond
The Meaning of the Millennium: Four Views (I know, I know...)

Next on my list is probably Knowing God by J I Packer, soon I want to start on Geerhardus Vos' Biblical Theology. I own it, but haven't cracked it open yet!

Knowing God is very good. Biblical Theology is as well. I am actually re-reading a major portion of it again. I think his description of what a covenant is the best I have ever read. I am also reading The Knowledge of the Holy by Tozer. Tozer is in the throneroom and Vos is beside my bed.

It's a small book (less than 125 pages) but it's excellent!

oh you know....

Matthew and Romans....

I use a triad of commentaries with em too, John Calvin's, John Gill's, and Matthew Henry's. they're all amazing and free, or else I wouldn't mind using Macarthur's commentaries, but I'm broke.

I have knowing God I would agree it's excellent and easy to read.

I posted the following review on Amazon about an hour ago:

Surprised by Hope contains several helpful sections, namely the following: an outstanding defense of the bodily resurrection and the ascension of Christ, good critiques of the doctrines of purgatory and prayers to the saints, good discussion of the role of Christianity in the arts, as well as an outstanding exposition of I Corinthians 15.

As helpful as Wright is though in some respects, he falters in others, chiefly in one overall respect. The primary emphasis of Christian faith is that Christ as God became incarnate as man for our salvation. (Nicene Creed) True, the doctrine of the resurrection of Christ includes a wider transforming role of Christians in the world helping to meet the physical and economic needs of others and possibly helping to preserve the environment. But Christ came primarily not to save the planet but to save us. Furthermore, its possible for someone to accept a wider social and environmental mission of Christianity and yet fail to see his/her personal need of salvation as a fallen creature.

Therefore, while Surprised by Hope is helpful in some respects, I would instead recommend Wrights Resurrection of the Son of God.

Is it having an effect on your walk with Christ? Reading or hearing the scriptures is a means of grace.

I'm studying Justification from Eternity again so I'm hitting a lot of old authors like Gill and Brine, Goodwin and Charnock. For pleasure I'm reading Brothers Karamarov and From Sabbath to Lord's Day.

Last week I read A Conservative Manifesto, Meltdown and The Divine Covenants by Pink...

Next week I hope to start What Christ Demands.

Oh, I haven't been neglecting the Scriptures. I do morning and evening devotions with my roommate everyday, and am very involved at church. I just don't have the time to read supplementary theological material beyond that very often. I used to read philosophy and theology constantly, but I've had to cut back. Soli Deo Gloria Jon
