I find myself half and half of believing religion and not.
I just watched a video on youtube called God of Carnage and talks about god...
Why is all this true?

You do not have to fully accept Christianity at the beginning. As long as you do not reject it, AND you continue to read/think about it.

Participate a church would certainly help. Just to see what other people would say.

I did not fully accept Christianity until about 25 years after my baptism.

Hi Bob,

To understand all of who and what God is, is beyond our limited human understanding, but to even understand the things that we can understand it only comes through diligent seeking. Watching vids on Youtube is not the way to learn the truth about God. Get a copy of the Scriptures and begin to study and read and prayerfully consider all that God has revealed to you. You might be surprised the things that you come to understand that seem so inexplicable to the carnal mind.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

Perhaps you could tell us the specific things you are having problems with? There are plenty of kind and helpful people around these parts who can give good advice :)

First of all, keep searching for yourself. Don't be persuaded by others opinions, but find the truth from scripture. Also, find someone you trust and can talk to. Someone strong in their faith, a mentor. God reveals much through the acts of His true children.

John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

Be patient and don't think you have to understand everything or have your life together, no one does. I've followed Christ for almost 15 years now, and I've learned many things in the past year that I wish I know 15 years ago. Being a child of God isn't about being perfect and following a bunch of commands; it's about life filled with thankfulness for Christ's salvation and mercy. God hasn't asked me to live life with a set of rules and a check list, but to serve others and trust that He'll always be there for me.

Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the LORD your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you."

Hi Bobwalls.

Welcome to CF. I am glad to know you and hope you will be blessed and find many new friends here.

First, I haven't seen the video, and can't say I'm even a little tempted.
God of Carnage does not sound like a true description of God the Father. Is it possibly someone's warped interpretation of him?

People who know just enough scripture to be eggheads and lead others astray will say that God is vengeful, mean, and a murderer. Quite the opposite is true. God showed mercy, patience, and forgiveness more times in the Bible than He ever showed anger or wrath.

There are instances in the OT telling of God's wrath. They can be accurately and easily explained by someone who has truly studied these books. If you have specific questions about God's character or stories you may have heard about him, I can tell you all about the God of Mercy and Grace, not carnage.

Here is a message I believe God wanted to give to you:

Joel 2:12-13 (New Living Translation)

12. That is why the Lord says,
“Turn to me now, while there is time.
Give me your hearts.
Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.
13. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief,
but tear your hearts instead.”
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is merciful and compassionate,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.
He is eager to relent and not punish.

You have had some good advice so far.

May I ask why you chose to place your inquiry in this forum. Does the question of creation/evolution/origin of life have a particular role in your half and half believing? Would some answers in this area specifically help to settle your mind?

I ask in trepidation because, as you will gather, this is a very controversial topic and you will get diametrically opposed answers depending on who responds.

What points in the video you watched were most telling in your opinion? ( I haven't seen the video.)

If your church has a good religious education class, that would be useful. Many, if not most, churches have them.

Learning about Christianity, theology, history, etc is a lifelong endeavor. It's part of our growing in faith.

Having some good grounding in basic catachesis is fundamental.

Most people only half of what they believe is true, so you would be in good company. Solomon wrote 1000 books, but only three of them were considered to be accurate enough to be included in the Bible.
