  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What would happen if the church could start meeting people where they are? We have all of these programs to give a meal for a day or a bed for a night. It is not enough because it only meets the need of the symptom. People get fed knowing tomarow they will go without.

We have to ask ourselves "Where are people?"

This is the answer:
1. Without food clothing and shelter.
2: Without money to support themselves.
3: In pain in their physical bodies.
4: In despair in their minds (i.e. mental illness).

I know we try to help people. But to be honest our thanksgiving food drives and bed for the night ministries are not meeting their needs.

You can not expect someone who is in pain all the time to think past their pain. It becomes hard for them to seek God. The same goes for each need. Remember in the bible that before the blind lame and deaf were preached to their needs were met.

This is what we need to address. How many here find that going to church and doing bible studies and prayer is not enough? How many feel like there is more to the christian life than church and bible study?

There is a point in the bible when it corrected people for their attitude of "I go to church and do bible study so I must be a good christian." It said "At a time when you should be teachers you have need that another teach you again."

It means it is time to go out and do what we believe. Preaching is effective if there is action to your words. But preaching with no power in your actions (i.e. not meeting needs) results in deaf ears.

The body of christ will be united once again. His hands will heal and his back will carry the lame. How many would ask to help in any way they can?

I ask all this because I am involved in something which will change lives. God has placed me here with a group of people with the like dream of a united body reaching out to the whole person and meeting them in their place. We have been given resources to make things happen and I just wanted to share with everyone that something big is coming. Something you will be able to help in.

there is a Christian song that has been out for awhile that speaks of the corporal works of mercy (Mat. 25.32-42) If we are the body? why aren't our arms reaching , feet walking , lips speaking ( where's the beef ? )

St. Francis said preach the gospel at all times ... if necessary , use words ( walk out your faith in love )
a kind word , a compliment , a word of encouragement , a smile , a hug ...

do some unsolicited, random , acts of kindness put a quarter in a stranger's parking meter that just expired , help a kid in the check out line who is 50 cents short to pay for his candy ...

be part of your churches out reaches ... bread line , TECh , Rec , Koiniea ....

I love that song. Casting Crowns is my favorite band today! And it is SO true. And it's more than just random acts that are needed. The Body of Christ should be moving with impunity to change the world, and doing so in UNITY!

Real ministry is costly. It costs more than just our time, our money, and our labor. It costs our LIFE.

Sometimes, we work through charities because we don't want to touch people ourselves. We don't want to get messy. So instead of becoming a real part of the lives of people with needs and letting them become a real part of our lives, we direct them to programs designed to help them. It's all very clean, very sanitized, very distant - and we like it that way.

IMO, the kind of ministry that will change the world begins when we touch people - really touch them where they are. When we don't shut them out by just meeting their needs from a distance. When we give of our lives, and not just scraps of our time or our money.

It's scary, and it takes dying to yourself daily, but I believe it's the way we've been called to live.

Be brave, friends. Christ is with us. Do what He's called you to do. Help those He places in your path. Be willing to give of yourself as much as God requires. Don't be afraid to get "dirty." He is with you. He is with us all.

-Grace

I love it!!! LOL!!! I agree with this post below:

That is what I am talking about. I hate the thought of starting another program to feed the homeless or something like that. What my group is doing is so much more than a program. In fact it isn't a program at all.

It is real people in real life coming together to help others. I agree too that no one person has the resources and it is a big task. But to be honest we DO have those resources. It is through the church as a whole that we are able to meet any need.

We had a meeting yesterday to lay some things out.

What we offer:

A chance for christians to practice their faith in serving.

Our purpose:

To be of help to those in need.

Who do we want to join us:

Christians who are mature and willing to live out a ministry.

What we really are doing is not getting a program together, it is getting the church together to walk, reach, feed, hold, and heal. It is to unite the body in a way that things get done.

This is what the church was at the start. It was a united body who shared the same goal and held each other accountable to meet needs.

We can do this since those involved are well equiped to start this. We (including myself) are buisness men who know how to start a buisness step by step and how to recrute and such. This is the same concept we are using. If you can build an organisation to do some buisness you can do the same with building an organised body of christ to go into the field and help people.

well businesses have a fiscal profit involved, thats motivating... christianity doesnt offer that.
I hope you succeed. is your specific direction activating the church or going to needy?

It is a pitty we are more motivated by money than by things which are eternal. Shame on us.

The specific direction is to activate the church. This will in turn cause the needy to be reached. If we can only organise and activate the church then we can get so much done.

well man, things eternal take alot of discipline to stay motivated about becuase they dont show results quickly and it takes a certai n kind of mindset that focuses very studiously on things you cant even see, its easy to lose the passion.
well man, good luck in the preaching world, i say that becuase thats pretty much the same thing.

Well put. And St. Francis is a good example of being a living testimony to the Living Word. At first he felt called to repair a church then discovered it went beyond a building which needed repair...then he ministered to the sick, the poor, the old, and even lepers. (and cared passionately for the animals too) Eventually a band of brothers followed and they formed the Franciscans who endeavor to do the same today.

We do need to put feet to what we have learned in our bible studies and actions to our prayers as we reach out to our neighborhoods, schools, country, nation..with more than just words...as we move in justice and mercy humbly.

Like Francis and his first followers..the joy of the Lord is our strength.

Because>>>

Mic.6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

 :yum: :liturgy: caring, feeding the hungry, and bringing justice.
