  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What if you choose the wrong religion?

Christianity states that the only way to heaven or eternal life or whatever, is through faith in Jesus. But, since other religions state that the only way to these things is through their teachings, how do you know which one is the truth? Thanks :)

Your question is based on a misunderstanding of how one is saved.

You're going on the very common, but misguided, assumption that it is up to us to seek salvation.

The Bible, on the other hand, paints a very different picture and tells us that we're incapable of seeking God because of our depravity (Rom 3:11; John 3:19; Luke 19:10; Gen 6:5; Psalms 10:4; Psalms 14:2-3; Psalms 119:155; Isa 53:6; Isa 64:7; Isa 65:1; Hos 7:10; Rom 10:20; Matthew 18:12-14; John 8:43-47; 1 Corinthians 2:14; Romans 8:5-9) but that it is God's perogative to seek us (John 1:12-13;John 15:16; John 15:19; John 17:1-2 John 6:65 Acts 13:48 Rom 8:29 Romans 9:29 1Pet 2:9 Rom 9:21 Pro 16:4 Romans 9:11-13 Romans 11:5-7 1 Kings 19:18 Psa 33:12 Psa 65:4 Psalms 106:4-5 Mat 11:27 Mat 22:14 Col 3:12 1Th 5:9 Titus 1:1 1 Peter 1:1-2 Rev 17:14 Rom 9:16 Ephesians 1:11-12 2Tim 2:10 Eph 1:5 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 Eph 1:11 Eph 2:5 Acts 15:14 Acts 22:14 John 10:2-3 Romans 11:1-11 ).

Whether you choose the right religion or the wrong religion doesn't matter if God hasn't chosen you first. If He has, then He will draw you to Christ.

Completely disagree, they're most defiantly in conflict. Christians used to prosecute people for spreading/believing in scientific theories that they didn't agree with, as it conflicted with their views. This happened until they twisted the interpretation of the bible to suit proven scientific theories.
This is completely untrue. What you're saying here is a common myth, and has been repeated so frequently that even some Christians have been misled into believing that it's true. However, in reality no Christian church has ever prosecuted anybody for any scientific theory.

Moreover, if you do some research you'll learn that until quite recently, the majority of scientists were actually clergymen. The next time you're in a library, do some research on the careers of Jean Buridan, Nico da Cusa, and Nicolas d'Orisme. These three men were the greatest scientists of the Middle Ages, and all three were Catholic clergymen. There are more than sixty craters on the moon named after priests who were also scientists, and archaeology has sometimes been called "the Jesuit Science" because so many practitioners came from the Order.

The only evidence ever offered as proof that Christians persecuted science or scientists is the claim that the Catholic Church imprisoned Galileo for teaching the Heliocentric Theory. However, that is a myth. I recommend reading this article for a sumamry of what really happened:

Just for knowledge, for understanding.

I agree, there is a possibility for most things. Where is the preponderance of evidence? Please, don't state the bible.

One thing that I keep finding about people's faith is that they just know and have this built-in awareness of their Father in Heaven. That intrinsic quality of a believer doesn't seem fair for those of doubt or question, yet that seems to be the case. Is God fair? Thing about this type of faith is that miracles are more likely to be common place in their lives, only fortifying an already disproportional faith to others. Is it that God isn't fair or is it that others are outside by their own will and choosing, only adding to the glory of God (for he gave them their own free will)? Why must some bare the light of God and others (jealous of not having any) attack and dislike them? Would you believe God, if he showed himself to you? It may very well be that you would, yet some will chose from their hearts to go against him. Have a good day.

It seems to me that the fallacy lies in the idea that you can opt out of the need to decide which religion is true by announcing none of them to be true.

Atheists, as much as anybody else, must stake their life upon not being wrong.

Yet your God does not allow someone to enter heaven unless they have believed in Jesus in their life, even if they have been a good person. I do not see this as understanding.

Actually that's your misunderstanding, no one is good but God alone. We cannot successfully plead our own case on our own merits without our Saviour Jesus Christ.

Romans 3:10

1 John 1:8
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.

Think of it this way:

God is Love.

Jesus is thus Love.

This Love can thus be best defined by everything Christ did and said= Godly type Love.

Obtaining and growing this “Love” is the objective of humans.

Humans cannot be created with this Love, so the best and only way to obtain it is by humbly accepting this Love as a free undeserving and unconditional gift (Charity).

Unfortunately, yet for good reasons, humans do not like to be humble and so find it difficult to accept Charity.

This world is set up to provide lots of opportunities for willing humans to see, experience, receive, and give this Godly type Love to others so they can decide if they truly desire this type of Love for themselves. The seeking of this Godly type Love and the humble acceptance of this Love allows humans to fulfill their earthly objective. Humbly accepting this free gift (Charity) of “Love” is accepting Jesus.

There is overwhelming circumstantial evidence of the bible. This type of evidence is used in a court of law.
Visit: www.TheBibleProofBook.com, (you will need acrobat reader for this), read The Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell a former agnostic- (its overwhelming circumstantial evidence of bible) and Examine the Evidence by Muncaster a former athiest/The Case for Christ and The Real Jesus by Lee Strobel a former athiest.

Historical Accuracy
The bible is loaded with historical statements concerning events hundreds of years ago and has not
been proven incorrect in any.
(Bible compared to other ancient documents):
New Testament starts - at 25 years between original and first surviving copies
Homer - starts at 500 years
Demosthenes - at 1400 years
Plato - at 1200 years

This is like saying-what if the world is a square?
