How would you deal with having God change what you thought was your future?
I can tell you exactly how I've dealt with it. I studied, trained, and prepared for the international mission field but that is not God's will for me, at least not right now. There have been times that I have faced the uncertain future with peace and complete reliance on the Lord and then there have been times where I have cried out in pain. The Lord's will is always better than our best laid plans. If God is taking you in a different direction then I'd encourage you to be obedient to him. His is all knowing and he has a purpose and plan behind it all.

I think dreamninofireland's advice is very sound. In general, I think it is best to not ignore nagging feelings. There have been times in the past that I was very set on doing a certain thing, but it didn't feel right. I think those "red flags" a person feels are really an indicator that something doesn't sit right in their conscience. If you continue to pray and seek God and those feelings don't go away or get stronger, I would heed that warning.

I can really relate to this post. I was actually in a very similar situation myself a few years ago. (My situation was different in that I became involved in an organization that I never should have joined and had to cancel a planned trip with them).

It's not an easy road, is it? It's certainly a learning experience.

You do become wiser after experiencing something like that. I think that it is easy to ignore warning signs or uncomfortable feelings, when you are really emotionally invested in something. I am learning that trusting God and following Him is always safer. We often don't have the full picture.

I am 34 and have had a passion for history most of my life and I thought this might be my future yet In the past year or so I maybe be called to something different. how would you deal with having God change what you thought was your future?
I'm thirty-nine. I taught social studies, language arts, and remedial reading for twelve years of my life to middle school students. I have a master's degree and had an established career that was going fairly well. Now, I'm a full-time nursing student with two semesters left. I came to the conclusion that it was killing my soul to continue teaching when I wasn't even half-way to retirement. I didn't hate it but I wanted to get out before I did.

I don't attribute any of this to God. I think God can use people no matter where they are in life or what they're doing. I'm personally drawn to careers where I feel like I directly help others and make a difference, so there's that. I talked it over with my husband and we decided we could afford for me to go back to school. The timing was right and I really enjoy it.
