“Be ye not over come with evil, but over come evil with good” Romans 12:21

“What I don't like about Word of Faith”

Past, present and future … the movement, the leaders, the truth.

No debate, means no arguing, no fussing, no fighting, no name calling.

If you tend to do these things, write your thoughts in Word and edit them before you click reply,
because too many have replied in the flesh and not in the Spirit.

No flaming, no baiting, no cut and pasting from one thread to another.

You see where I am going with this don’t you?

Past, present and future … the movement, the leaders, the truth.

Saint Paul had a similar problem when surrounded by an angry crowd in Jerusalem after a return trip from Greece …
seeded with anger by the Pharisee’s accusing him of bringing a Greek into the Temple …
The Holy Spirit took over and answered their questions. (Acts 21, 22, 23, and 24)

Lets do like wise … let the Holy Spirit take you over for your answers … witnesses please step forward in peace with this reminder.

Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men”. Acts 5:29

Acts 5: 32-39
32 And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”
33When they heard this, they were furious and plotted to kill them.
34Then one in the council stood up, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law held in respect by all the people,
and commanded them to put the apostles outside for a little while.
35And he said to them: “Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do regarding these men.
36For some time ago Theudas rose up, claiming to be somebody. A number of men, about four hundred, joined him.
He was slain, and all who obeyed him were scattered and came to nothing.
37After this man, Judas of Galilee rose up in the days of the census, and drew away many people after him.
He also perished, and all who obeyed him were dispersed.
38And now I say to you, keep away from these men and let them alone; for if this plan or this work is of men, it will come to nothing;

39 but if it is of God, you cannot overthrow it—lest you even be found to fight against God.”

Peace …

I'll start it off ...

I'm so poor Word of Faith churches are ashamed of me. My pockets are empty ... one day till payday and all I have is three bucks.

No matter how much I give or who I give it to ... my pocket book does not prosper, yet all of my needs have been met.

I have Jesus in my heart, a Christian Fellowship church gave me a 31' RV to live in when I was homeless about five years ago.

The director of Jesus Video gave me a 93 Dodge van to drive just for being a volunteer.

I'm eating pretty good for an old country boy said Will Rogers one time, when asked how he was doing.

Me too, but no jet airplane ... shoot I can't even afford to fly on one lol

My issue is not so much with the movement, or core doctrines, but with some of the adherents taking a teaching and bringing to the extreme.

I'm with you, all my needs are met, and met continuously, I am wealthy, but not monetarily, at least not the way some would judge.

I don't like the fact that a few obscure teachings are given more emphasis than that which is important, the message of believing by faith that our God is who He says He is and the emphasis to seek after Jesus and show love to others often go unnoticed by folks who see only what they perceive to be errors, and I may agree that some teachings can pose problems but that is a small part of a whole.

Ok . I will not give a complete list - just those on the top of my head .

I dislike the name that they give themselves . I especially dislike how at least some would say that those who dislike wof dislike faith and/or the Scriptures simply because they are in their title .

Since they consider "word" to be the "Scriptures" , they actually push faith in the Scriptures . I have a problem with this as it is having faith in created things - not the Creator . This comes to a head when many would pick out a sentence or two from the Scriptures and claim them for themselves . Before they came to that sentence or two , something was not apparent in their lives . So , they "claim" the passage and associate that with *faith* somehow . If the passage was true , it would be true whether they believed it or not or knew it or not ( some exceptions ( few exceptions ) exist ) .

An almost automatic association of sickness/disease/poverty/debt with sin or lack of faith or some combination of such is another problem .

I will finish with the peave that does not belong only with WOF as it belongs to all groups that identify themselves with a certain set of doctrines that set them apart from others . That is , of course , identifying themselves with those few doctrines and worshipping ( or practically worshipping ) those doctrines and/or identity . It happens with tongues and Spirit Baptism with P/C types .

Don't label all Word of Faith ministries with the good or bad tag ...

This is from Tricia Tillin:
http://intotruth.org/wof/tract3.html
giving ten reasons why we should reject Word of Faith teachings.

Here's number ten only:
REASON TEN:
It focuses on self and the world instead of God and Heaven.

The emphasis in Word-of-Faith doctrine is all on success, prosperity, advancement, gain, health and strength. There is little compassion for those who fail to come up to these exacting standards. Any adversity is said to be a 'lack of faith' to confess the appropriate Word. This is a great misunderstanding of the wisdom of God, and His plan to bring his children to glory, for if we refuse to share in the trials, setbacks and persecutions of Jesus, we are not ready to share His glorification. [Rom 8:17] Some of the Word-of-Faith teachers and ministries have been the worst offenders in bringing the Name and the cause of Jesus Christ into disrepute. Ministries that emphasise prosperity have ended up in greed, manipulating believers into giving money they can little afford. Over-emphasised teaching about God's healing has led to extravagant claims for miracles that have been exposed as hyperbole and sham. Doctrines about man's godhood and superhuman abilities have led to arrogance, self-will and the use of psychic powers to perform miracles instead of a simple dependency on the Holy Spirit. Also, teachings about faith have become rituals and formulas for producing instant result; and many who could not or would not go down this road were derided and rejected as "having no faith".

No debate, just for balance, here is a very thorough and complete, point-by-point refutation of the Tricia Tillin article linked above, written by one of CF's very own WoF members;

________________________________

What I don't like about some Word of Faith ministries, is that they have an overemphasis on financial prosperity. I believe this is a direct result of some denominational beliefs that believe that you must be poor to serve God, but unfortunately, some have taken it too far, IMHO.

Christians are Christians.

There are 1200 Denominations out there.

So, when a person from one of the 1200 looks at other Denominations, she will see things she doesn't like.
This is basic Human nature.

Why does the OP focus on a Denomination, and run it down?
All Christians are in the Body of Christ.
Why not run down a non-Christian group?

NO, instead, it is easier to cast aspersions on fellow members of the Body of Christ.
This is a way that Satan gets REAL destructive power.
Instead of all being Christians ... he prods us to break into 1000 pieces.
Divide and conquer.
And, Satan is REAL good at what he does.

Christianity is about Jesus Christ.
The "game" is ... Praise Jesus, and know that He is God.
Would the OP be happier if there were 99% percent LESS Christians in the World?
Then we could be left with just the "pure" ones.
