  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

No replies yet? Huh, what a surprise. :p

I'm fishing more for views than replies (77 so far). Most of my threads are meant for lurkers, as I know how the usual suspects will reply. Fishing is fun, especially trolling. :D

I wouldn't touch it with my neighbor's ten-foot pole. :)

It is an interesting article. Thanks for posting it. The last few paragraphs were especially eye opening to me. I never thought about a person feeling that way. Food for thought.

He expressed many thoughts that others are afraid to express for fear of being labeled racist.

...is the title of a very interesting article, and a must-read, imo.

A very interesting article though difficult for one, or at least for me, to simply reply without considerable thought and effort. Perhaps for me many such issues have much more depth then can be articulated without strenuous excavation. It does call to mind aspects of "The Phoenix Effect" and many conversations with my late friend Edith Hirshtal on generational concerns.

I posted the article more as food for thought than for discussion.

Another day on CF.
This is the part of the article that I found the most enlightening.

Here I leave you with a quotation from Baldwin’s Notes of a Native Son. I can live with the slight sadness expressed in it. Instead of filling me with dread, I can confront it and understand it. Baldwin and I also, like Antonio in Shakespeare’s The Tempest, realize that “what’s past is prologue; what to come, In yours and my discharge.”

"I know, in any case, that the most crucial time in my own development came when I was forced to recognize that I was a kind of bastard of the West; when I followed the line of my past I did not find myself in Europe but in Africa. And this meant that in some subtle way, in a really profound way, I brought to Shakespeare, Bach, Rembrandt, to the stones of Paris, to the cathedral at Chartres, and to the Empire State Building, a special attitude. These were not really my creations, they did not contain my history; I might search in them in vain forever for any reflection of myself. I was an interloper; this was not my heritage. At the same time I had no other heritage which I could possibly hope to use–I had certainly been unfitted for the jungle or the tribe. I would have to appropriate these white centuries, I would have to make them mine–I would have to accept my special attitude, my special place in this scheme–otherwise I would have no place in any scheme."

I was also struck by this. Blacks want to claim substantial responsibility for the building of America. But the reality is they get no more credit than assembly line workers claiming that they built Ford Motors.
