What kinds of musicals or plays have you been in?

My first play I was ever in was in 7th grade. We performed a Rennasance play in front of the student body. I loved acting ever since.

When I started going back to church and became a Christian, I started being in some church skits in front of the congregation.

In school, I'm taking Theater Arts II, and was in a one act play last year for the school in Theater Arts I. I'll be in another play this year for Theater Arts II in the spring.

I've tried out for many different plays, never got in any, but it was fun to try out.

As for musicals, I chickened out of Oklahoma last year. I was too afriad to sing and dance in front of people. I also didn't have the time. I didn't even bother with Fiddler on the Roof this year for those same reasons.

Okay enough about me. ;) Lets hear from you! :)

I acted "the 3rd heavy on the left", for @ 7 yrs, with Liverpool Christian multimedia drama troupe Roundabout Releases - (in the '70s)

Rose to the dizzy heights of understudy lead rock singer in "Yesterday, Today, Forever", produced by former Sir Cliff Musical Director, Dave Anfield

Same decade, I sang & played guitar all over NW England & N Wales with gospel band "Harbinger", whose Barry Crompton turned solo pro gospel singer, & named his debut album after the band - (same label as Adrian Snell)

In Moorlands Bible College, '77/'79, I had the joy of singing, playing & preaching round many south UK jails & detention centres with "The Beacons"

Smooth link to plug the tribute to Johnny Cash on TV @ 11.05 tonight: I commend prison ministry to any good gospel bands/drama troupes..

Chapel is the most popular place to swap "snout", so ya sure get a captive audience in the "5-bar hotel" circuit!

Seriously, anywhere where the audience is all too familiar with the worst in life means they are ripest for the gospel

(Remember how Jesus used mass-killer Saul of Tarsus: the Apostle Paul!)

So, military bases, worldwide, are in even more need of the good news of the glorious gospel, as military personnel face the worst life can throw, yes?

Anyone else out there who's currently into either ministry, I'd be glad to pray for you!

Ian

Howdy stranger!

Forgot to mention playing residential care homes as a solo pro entertainer, doing "reminiscence therapy"

Tip from the matron who got me into it was that, when churches come doing services, a good number of residents make themselves scarce, & stay in their rooms

By doing their favourite songs, talking about the years they were written, etc, all residents enjoyed feeling @ 50 years younger, & you can put 2/3 hymns/Christian songs into the hour set, & take time to chat with folk, before/after the show

Modern songs, done in the styles of the old singers/bands that they like, go down well with both residents & staff too - (like Joe Longthorne does so well)

I'm just watching the TV tribute to Johnny Cash: they just covered how Johnny found firm faith in Christ thru his desparate struggle to kick drugs & booze - & how he proposed to June before an audience of 5000

Kriss Kristofferson put it over so well how Johnny didn't support crime, but did his best to support criminal underdogs, & didn't support the Vietnam War, but did his best for the morale of the warriors caught up in it

Man, I've had small parts in:

Fiddler on the Roof
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat
The Sound of Music
The King and I

...at my high school (plus, working backstage).

My church choir did:

Selections from Joseph...
A short Easter play/musical
Selections from Godspell
A Season to Celebrate (musical on the life of Christ)...I had the one female solo!
(It meant a lot to me, b/c I was still pretty shy and it was a difficult thing for me to do)

Unfortunately, I haven't done much of anything since high school, and I'm a sophomore in college now. Gotta do some cool performing soon! :)
