What happened to the Ark of the Covenant.

Well there is the Indiana Jones version to this and then there is a credible historical account of where the Ark went. Does anybody know any pieces of the audit trail here. Was the Ark in Jerusalem when it fell to Nebuchadnezzar. Where is it now?

Nobody knows. It may not have survived.

2 Maccabees says that the prophet Jeremiah was warned by God about the Babylonian invasion and he took the Ark and buried it on Mount Nebo.

There is no trace of it, though I've heard there is apparently a tribe in Ethiopia that claims to have it, but that was like 20th or so hand hearsay.

Revelation shows that it's in heaven.

No one 'knows'. As in, can lay hands on it after a long climb, deep dive or find the file number at Area 51.

My own opinion is that God Himself grew weary (or just sick and tired) of various groups treating it like the ultimate, cosmic good luck charm, or the grand 'zap-the-enemy' device and took it. Revelation (11:19) does mention it being in the Temple in Heaven.

Either way, I've got a nickel says it will never be found on this Earth.

I would think it was very likely destroyed, along with Jerusalem, in 587BC. There is no mention of it in Ezra or Nehemiah, nor in the New Testament, so probably it no longer existed in the post exilic period.
