  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I sort of know that a member (not the drummer) had a drug addiction that killed him after he had therapy for it, but I don't know the details. And also, I want to see how many people like Nivana, so just vote below (or above, I don't know where the vote dialog goes).

well i can't stand nirvana... but yeah... there's two stories:

kurt cobain (singer/guitarist) had a heroine addiction. he overdosed and commited suicide by shooting himself with a shotgun.

courtney love (kurt's lover) murdered kurt while he was in overdose with a shotgun and made it look like suicide.

they're the basic stories. i don't really know which one is true, i don't really care.

Why not? And do you like the Foo Fighters?

Am I the only one that thinks they suck?

Tasteless joke alert; highlight to read:
What did Kurt Cobain say before he died?
"Hole's gonna be big"

But. Yeah, the drummer (Dave Grohl) is now the singer for the Foo Fighters.

Yeah, I like the Foo Fighters, too. Especially All My Life and My Hero.

And a question: Are song titles underlined or italicized?
Quoted, but if it's something like a classical piece, it's italicized.

I think Nirvana was a good band, but some people take their music too far in my opinion. For instance, I can see the beauty in Cobain's lyrics in certain songs. "Something in the Way", "Rape Me", and "Heart Shaped Box" are all very pretty. However, I don't see how people think that he was consistently genius.

There is a very good book titled Who Killed Kurt Cobain? I think that it is an enjoyable read.

I find Nirvana realy good. They are or i should say were the creaters of Grunge. They start in seattle, washington. So i heard a lot of weird stories after Cobain Killed him self. I live in Tacoma which isn't far from seattle. They had a huge memorial in seattle that my mom went to she used to love them. But any ways I like foo fighters too. but that kind of music is starting to become a past to me i have start to listening to more christian rock bands and encourage anyone who wants to know more about Jesus to go to the event called "Acquire The Fire".

Too bad grunge rock died with Cobain...

You should check out all of the great grunge albums released after the death of Cobain. Cobain may have been the grunge icon that the popular media identified with, which could have led to a lack of interest in grunge bands after his death, but his death was certainly not the end of grunge music.

Very, very debatable.

Why "must" you listen to more christian bands? I never attended Acquire the Fire in my youthful days, but I would be skeptical of such events that rely on emotional responses. If you feel the need to give up certain music, I encourage you to evaluate your motives and make sure that it is your decision and not something that you are led into. :)

Actually, I don't think it is very debatable. Most sites and music history essays I've seen on Grunge almost always cite Mudhoney as the originator of the style, and Nirvana as the ones who simply made it commercially successful (which is still important, but to give credit where credit is due).

As for my opinion, I like some of Nirvana's material, but I like other Grunge bands or Post-Grunge bands far more.

Mudhoney seems a little more hard rock than grunge to me.
