Here's an article on CNN.com entitled, "What Happened to Christianity?" It has to do with Jim Bakker's son's new reality show "One Punk, Under God". Apparently, little Bakker has a church ministry now. But, wait until you see where and what it is.

This sort of goes along the lines of the world's view on Christians. How are the lost viewing us when we have all this chaos going on? Pastors using drugs and having secret homosexual relationships in one group and another group welcoming openly gay pastors! Granted we are not one big group, there is so much diversity, division, etc even right here within Baptists, let alone all of Christianity. I am not sure what kind of man little Bakker is. He could be doing exactly what God wants him to do. We all know his dad had his fall along with many others. And it is not just one denomination as proven recently. Jim Bakker has another TV show and is remarried. Only God knows his heart. Jimmy Swaggart is still going strong. Kent Hovind will be back! Ted Haggard will be back.

I guess my point is, is there a sterotype of Christians? Do we have to be clean cut, typical looking or can someone like little Bakker here be doing what needs to be done?

Anyway, here's the article: http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/12/13/bakker.brown.commentary/index.html

D'ya reckon the public perception of televangelists is exemplified in the personage from the movie your avatar was borrowed from?
I'm not so sure very many people remember the movie "Fletch Lives" from 1989. I doubt even further that that is the movie they think of when they think of TV evangelists.

Jay Bakker and Marc Brown said:
Why are Christians supporting laws that force others to live by their standards?

These guys need a reality check. All laws enforce SOMEONES standards.Using their logic we should not have laws against murder, having multiple marriage partners, or laws against having sex with farm animals. All because someone isn't a Christian doesn't mean Christian values are not beneficial for them and everyone else around them.

No more "eww" than what Frankie boy is trying to do with his parents' remains.

(Sure wish I could remember where I left that pukin' smiley, I finally found a good place to use it.) :)

ahh, well, it must be the season.
*urph* I just read the Talking Cow article.

What made me queeze about "young Bakker" is the spirit of liberalism and his preliminary "WTH". The tattoos and clothing aren't disturbing to me at all. I just don't see how anything edifying could be introduced with "WTH".

*double burph*- I just read the History of Open Door Community Church.

{TwinCrier makes plans to return to video store to rent Fletch Lives.}
If you haven't seen it, and it has been years since I have, there is a TV Evangelist in it played by R. Lee Ermey. He does a good job of poking fun at TV Evangelists.

To enjoy the rest of the movie, you sort of have to be a Chevy Chase fan. It sort of a "cult classic".

If you like Chevy Chase, you'll love the Fletch movies.

I read an interview with him and he said he ad-libbed most of the dialog. There was an outline for the script and he plugged in most of the dialog on his own.

Very funny movies and very funny man. I miss seeing him in comedies. I think his "talk show" did him in in Hollywood and no one wants to give him a chance anymore.

Yes, there is a stereotype of most believers. These kinds are breaking the mold. I think you hit it dead on when you said that only God knows their hearts. We shouldn't judge their ministry. Didn't Paul say that he didn't even judge himself? Only God truly knows if they are doing what they are suppose to. I hope they are reaching some and pray that they are.
