I'm curious, for those churches and persons who observe communion on less than a weekly basis, what is the specific reason for that? I certainly understand the "familiarity breeds contempt" line of thought, but it seems that a proper word from the pastor should defeat this problem.

Jon, I think that for our church it is out of tradition/habit to do it on the first Sunday of the month (been doing it like that for decades). However, if pressed for a reason, I suspect that most would use your "familiarity" line. However, we are discussing the possibility of going to every week. We shall see.

My church is in the same line of thought as Jim's. I remember speaking with the pastor once about it and him telling me that he wished it could be every Sunday, but the elders and the rest of the church were concerned with the length of the service. So it hasn't been brought up again...

But if you ask me, that seems like a pretty silly reason.

God Bless,
Erin

Our church does communion fortnightly at the main service, weekly at the early service, and monthly at the evening service (I think). Not sure how it all came about.

All the other churches I've been at have had it weekly at the early service, and monthly at the main service. I think it is about the familiarity breeds contempt thing.
