You obey the ten commandments, you will be sin free.

Matthew 19:17-22
17And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
18He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
19Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
20The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?
21Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
22But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

What is your point? Jesus showed him that his possessions were more important than God, which is in fact a violation of the commandments. Notice he answered the specific commandments that Jesus said, but when Jesus got to the money, he failed. No where in this passage does he say he kept all 10 commandments.

:wave:Svt4Him, hope you had a great Labor Day Weekend.:)

Just curious, do you think the ten commandments are something we still need to follow?

For a long time, I thought as long as you obeyed the ten commandments, you were sin-free, but I don't think that's the case.

Could someone please explain to me or list for me all sins that exist (generally speaking)?

The Bible definition of sin is

1Jn 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgressed also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

and Paul warns us not to sin wilfully

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

this let me know we can sin not knowing that we have sinned, because you did not have the knowledge of the truth

even after Jesus death and resurrection we continue to sin and long as you don't sin wilfully John also said

1Jn 2:1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Hi everyone,

I have a simple view of this question,

No-one except our Lord is free of sin.

Because of this Jesus died to pay for our sins.

Being a sinner will not stop you from going to heaven, our sin has been paid in full by Jesus.

When we have faith in what our lord has done for us we choose to reduce sin in our lives and try to become more like Christ.

Lack of faith in our Lord will send you down the broad wide path.

Amen.

:wave:Templeofthespirit, I like what you said.

The book of Romans chapters 7 & 8 really goes into this subject. If anyone wants to read what Paul teaches about the the law and sin.

Romans 8:1-3
1"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:"

John 15:5"He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit. But without me ye can do NOTHING."

Hi everyone,

It's quite easy really;

When you have faith, you have a choice in all the situations you face daily.

You can choose either to follow the way of the flesh which are the sins we are talking about, for example porn, theft etc.

Or you can choose the way of the spirit which is faith in our Lord and try to do what our Lord would want, for example following comandments.

In these situations I quickly prey to my Lord, "I choose to follow your will Lord and not the ways of the flesh".

God bless.

yet what exactly define sin in your statement?

what do the Lord want? verse what do man want?

obviously what the Lord want is not sin, yet what define sin.

what is the Lord will which will be the opposite of sin.

you choose to follow the Lord yet you have not told us how.

jwaitman,

Thank you for your post.
Actually, Adam cannot be blamed of subjecting himself to Satan since he had no awareness of good and bad in the beginning. Therefore his "sin" of obtaining this knowledge/awareness is questionable.

Kutte
Actually, Adam's sin was one of not loving God with all his heart, mind, and soul. Desiring, depending, and trusting in anyone or anything other than God meant 'spiritual treason' of infinite proportions to an infinitely Holy God. Man was created in the image of God for the sole purpose of being an image bearer to God and to reflect His nature. Once this trusting, loving relationship was broken, Adam no longer could perfectly represent God. Thus the death of the soul and the curse of physical death. That being said, God's glorious grace is seen in granting Adam to live beyond the point of this treason so that the glory of the grace of God could have a chance to be displayed to all.

Getting back to the OP, Jesus already defines what sin is when He states what the two greatest commandments are....'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

Hi ozell,

Answer, anything that is not God's will.

Question 2. "what do the Lord want?"
Answer, for you to follow God and only God.

Question 3. "verse what do man want?"
Answer, everything that he can get away with.

Question 4. "obviously what the Lord want is not sin, yet what define sin?"
Answer, see answer 1.

Question 5. "what is the Lord will which will be the opposite of sin?"
Answer, read the Bible, it's words are the will of God.

Question 6. "you choose to follow the Lord yet you have not told us how?"
Answer, by following Gods will and not mine.

I hope this helps answer some of the questions ozell.

I'm not going to provide readings because there is no point duplicating what stelow and others provided on page 3.

Matthew 22:36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
