What ever happend to..........

Ever since the mid to early 70's the so called "family" TV shows have gone down hill IMO.

What ever happend to the shows like : Leave it to Beaver..........Father Knows Best.........My 3 Sons........The Donna Reed Show............The Andy Griffith Show.

All of these shows had one thing in common that is a stanger to society today. A great father role modle in the home. Some one to show the kids how a family is supposed to work. I personally belive that these type of shows had the closest reseblance to how God want's our homes to be like.

To qoute a good friend of mine: "In today's society we have gone from Father Knows best to the Simpsons". And I think that he has hit the nail squarely on the head.

I think one thing that happened is that people began to realize the media-ideal family didn't really resemble their own.

and so to have shows like that doesn't make sense. reruns...yes. but not new ones.

Perfect families are 'boring'. No one wants to watch them for a half hour to an hour at a time. Especially when then majority of families sitting around the TV are disfunctional themselves. Media outlets televise what sells...and good morals don't really do that.

I think media tries to sell you a lifestyle, I do not behave like folks on tv. I also know quite a few "normal" families.

I think your friend is missing one point and wrong on another.

First, The Simpsons is a broad farsical comedy and further it's animated meaning things like the laws of physics don't apply. It's not meant to replace Father Knows Best, it's an entirely different animal.

Second, while there is plenty of dyfunction to go around on The Simpsons, they're a family that has stayed together through thick and thin (and morbidly obese in Homer's case). You might disagree with some of their family values, but they remain, in the end, a family.

You can't say that for 50% of households in real life America.

And what's the Donna Brady Show? Did you mean Donna Reed and the Brady Bunch?

In today's society ONLY 7% of the American households are what we would call a "normal Christain" home.

Where the father is the Sole (only) bread winner and the mother stays home and takes care of the kids.

Why is this????

It is because we as Christians have let the world influence our thinking that rationality.

Sole means "only"? I thought it was a fish.

And are you suggesting that a household of non-Christians where the husband is the sole wage (money) earner is somehow non-rational? Or that a household where the wife works and the husband stays home with the kids is non-rational? Are you saying that divorced Christians aren't "normal" Christians?

what I am saying is that God intended for the family to work in this way:

The husband is to love, care for, provide for and protect his wife and children. (ephesians 5)

The wife is to be the keeper of the home. (titus 2:5)

The problem lies when the world today has influenced our way of living beyond what God has intended for us (the belivers in Him and His son Christ Jesus).

The way that this has happened (I belive) is through the TV show producers wanting more and more freedom in what they put on the air. Because it is a proven fact that if they can get us to laugh at it we will accept it!!!!!! THis needs to change!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's called culture. Our cultural values have changed, and our entertainment has changed with it. I personally like The Simpsons, and think that shows today are more relevant in today's society than the shows they show on TV Land. There have been some good shows over the past few decades such as Home Improovement, Full House, and Cosby.

From my veiw they are replaced by shows that are filled with sex since sex sells and its a shame.There is very little that good for the whole family.
