My first name, Sara which is derived from Sarah, means 'lady' or 'princess' in Hebrew.

My middle name, Ann is derived from Anne which is derived from Hannah (Hebrew = Channah). Hannah means 'favour' or 'grace'.

My last name, Williams which is Norman, means 'desire for protection' according to some random website.

Thanks for sharing.

In His love,

Tink

PS. I saw this in the Christian Teens forum by mistake and thought it was a good conversation starter.

I have not much idea what my name means...it's Vivienne and I name myself this name. :p Can someone please help me to find out the meaning of my name?

My actual name is Yoong Chian Wen whereby Yoong is my family name or we call it surname. Chian Wen is a lady's name, that's all I know from the Chinese-educated people (I'm English-educated) and they told me that I should appreciate my name. I heard that Chian Wen is a very beautiful name describing a very pretty girl. This made me feel that this name doesn't suit me. :( Anyway, that's my name.... ;)

so, for those of us who are clueless, where do we find out what our names mean.

I know what my middle name means. it means I'm in trouble for something I did. At least, I only hear it when I'm in trouble, and it's usually my mother who's saying it.

You can go here some are easier to use than others, just play around with them.

I agree with the middle name thing, that's the only thing mine ever meant at home, it seemed like it was used a lot. ;)

Grace and peace to you,

Tim - Honoring God
Rhodes - From the island of Rhodes, in the Mediterranean Sea. Rhodes, a town in Guienne, France.
Lowery - Signifies in Scotch a crafty person, or one who lowers, that is, contracts his brow; hence a "lowry day"--cloudy.

Now I'm more confused than ever....

Good thread though...

Gregory (Greek) = Watchman, vigilant, watchful, one who watches...

Scott (English) = One from Scotland, Highlander...

Whyte = Debated roots. Some assume Scottish, descended from the MacGregor clan, and was descriptive of a pale individual. Others claim it to be Norse and French, out of LaBlanc, but changed to "White" and "Whyte" after the Norman invasion of England under William the Conqueror. Whyte could mean "pure", "pale", or "peace"...
