Jesus also said that where our treasure is, there our heart will be.

First of all, "hate" is hyperbole - like when Jesus says that we must "hate" our father and mother to be His disciple.

What He means is that we must place our sights firmly on the Kingdom of God, not the values of this world. Given a choice between something that reflects the values of this world, and something that reflects the values of the Kingdom of God, we should choose the latter even though it might disadvantage us by this world's standards.

Hate doesnt mean literally hate. I bet you Satan has used this verse to convince Christians they must hate themselves. It just means that when compared to eternal life this life is very little and it is worth working hard and sacrificing pleasures for the sake of the kingdom.

25Those who love their life lose it, and those who hate their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

When you give your life to Jesus Christ, you are "losing" your own life, forfeiting what you would become, forfeiting your own desires & wanting only God's will in your life and nothing of your own will.

Similarly, if you love your life, not following Jesus & His will, but doing your own thing & being your own person, then you will "lose" your eternal life (because you won't have God in you).

This verse goes along with loving thw world or wordly, selfish life. If we give our lives away, we build up treasures in heaven. When we lose the selfish life, we gain the Agape life. Agape life is the love of God that is giving and faithful to others. Jesus said that he who is a servant is chief among you. Our love for God is supposed to be above any other love in our lives. This is a process of cutting away the flesh of this life, and gaining the eternal life of the Spirit.

Joh 12:25 Those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who despise their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

Mt 6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Mt 20:27 And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant:

Mt 19:21 Jesus said to him, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me."

Mt 10:39 If you cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give it up for me, you will find it.

Mt 16:25 If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for me, you will find true life.

Mt 19:29 And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or property, for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much in return and will have eternal life.

Mr 8:35 If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life.

Lu 9:23 Then he said to the crowd, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must put aside your selfish ambition, shoulder your cross daily, and follow me.

Lu 17:33 Whoever clings to this life will lose it, and whoever loses this life will save it.

Ac 20:24 But my life is worth nothing unless I use it for doing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about God’s wonderful kindness and love.

Lu 14:26 "If you want to be my follower you must love me more than your own father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, more than your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.

Well put :D Basically the verse is saying that you have to love Jesus with all that you have in you. Serving Him and loving Him should be more important to you than your own life. It sounds like a lot, but He gave that and so much more for our behalf, so the request is really quite small. :D

If you spend so much time worrying about gaining things in this life and are always worried as to whether or not you are seen as "cool" or "popular" in this world and worry about living or dying and what you will wear and eat, you are probably not even saved and therefore will go to hell...but those who live for Christ and therefore do not care whether they live or die and know that they will receive all that they need to live are most likely saved and therefore will go to heaven to live eternally. Hope this helps, Lauren

Isn't it talking about how you have to die to youself and put yourself second in everything and Christ first? And then you will have eternal life because of putting Christ first.
