What does this prove?

Luke 1:47
my soul is glad because of God my Savior,

Luke 2:22-24
King James Version

22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

Exodus 13:2
Holman Christian Standard Bible
2 “Consecrate every firstborn male to Me, the firstborn from every womb among the Israelites, both man and domestic animal; it is Mine.”

Leviticus 5:11
Good News Translation
11 If you cannot afford two doves or two pigeons, you shall bring two pounds of flour as a sin offering. You shall not put any olive oil or any incense on it, because it is a sin offering, not a grain offering.

Leviticus 12:8
Holman Christian Standard Bible
8 But if she doesn’t have sufficient means[a] for a sheep, she may take two turtledoves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. Then the priest will make atonement on her behalf, and she will be clean.”

1 John 3:5 ESV
You know that he appeared to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.

Luke 1:35
Good News Translation
35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and God's power will rest upon you. For this reason the holy child will be called the Son of God.

Luke 1:46-47 . . My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior

Protestants sometimes refer to that verse as a proof text that Jesus' mom was a sinner in need of redemption; but it's a poor choice because in the Jewish thinking of that day, a savior was different than what modern Christians think of one today. For example Neh 9:27 and Obad 1:21 where saviors are depicted as benefactors and knights in shining armor, so to speak; which is pretty much how Jesus' mom portrayed God in her so-called Magnificat.

Luke 1:48-55 . .He has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me-- holy is His name. His mercy extends to those who fear Him, from generation to generation.

. . . He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; He has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, even as He said to our fathers.

Lev 12:7-8 . . These are the regulations for the woman who gives birth to a boy or a girl. If she cannot afford a lamb, she is to bring two doves or two young pigeons, one for a burnt offering and the other for a sin offering. In this way the priest will make atonement for her, and she will be clean.

That's yet another passage that Protestants sometimes utilize as a proof text that Jesus' mom was a sinner in need of redemption; but it's not strong enough for that purpose because mothers were required by law to bring those offerings; whether they were sinners or not made no difference, for example:

John the Baptist's services were a baptism unto repentance (Matt 3:11). Well, according to John 8:29, 2Cor 5:21, Heb 4:15, and 1Pet 2:22 the Lord Jesus was a 110% sinless man who needed no repentance and who, in fact, called people to repent (Matt 4:17) yet Jesus submitted to John's baptism; not because he needed it, but because it was the right thing to do. (Matt 3:13-15)

9 Soon afterward Mary got ready and hurried off to a town in the hill country of Judea. 40 She went into Zechariah's house and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby moved within her. Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit 42 and said in a loud voice, “You are the most blessed of all women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 Why should this great thing happen to me, that my Lord's mother comes to visit me? 44 For as soon as I heard your greeting, the baby within me jumped with gladness. 45 How happy you are to believe that the Lord's message to you will come true!”

Mary's Song of Praise
46 Mary said,

“My heart praises the Lord;
47 my soul is glad because of God my Savior,
48 for he has remembered me, his lowly servant!
From now on all people will call me happy,
49 because of the great things the Mighty God has done for me.
His name is holy;
50 from one generation to another
he shows mercy to those who honor him.
51 He has stretched out his mighty arm
and scattered the proud with all their plans.
52 He has brought down mighty kings from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away with empty hands.
54 He has kept the promise he made to our ancestors,
and has come to the help of his servant Israel.
55 He has remembered to show mercy to Abraham
and to all his descendants forever!”

56 Mary stayed about three months with Elizabeth and then went back home.

As for Mary being stained with sin, I get the idea from "all have sinned" text.

Do have any texts that have been used as proof texts that she has sinned?

I am curious to what they are and our Catholic friends answers.

Thanks Webershome,
Daniel

Of course, we have yet another conundrum. The temple sacrifice in Luke 2:22-24 was for the purification of the mother of a baby. This is clearly stated in the Old Testament. Following the birth of a baby a Jewish mother was unclean in the sight of God and needed to make a sacrifice in the Temple to be purified from her uncleanness. A choice of sacrifices was possible, and Mary and Joseph could only afford the least expensive one.

Women, in the Old Testament, appear to be most prone to the sin of uncleanness. By contrast, a man who had a nocturnal emission would be unclean for only a day and would not need to make a sacrifice. For a woman, menstruation itself was a serious uncleanness. She had to be confined for seven days. That means that for twelve or thirteen weeks in a year a healthy woman would be confined at home.

The clear implication in Luke is that Mary was a normal Jewish woman who, because the sin caused by the birth of her Son, offered the requisite sacrifice which resulted in cleansing and forgiveness.

Thanks, where is that?

When you look at this post, look to the bottom right corner. You will see three words on a pastel blue background - "Gift" "+Quote" and "Reply". These are three computer prompts. When you click on reply the post you are replying to will pop up in next empty post section. It will be bracketed at each end with "QUOTE".

Now, if you want to respond to a long post and you want to insert your comments within that post, you should click on "+Quote" instead of "Reply".

Please let me know if you are able to use this. Now, I will click on the red box with "Post Reply".
