We might want to take this in baby steps. Perhaps an initial question might be:

Do you believe the Spirit can convict a man with respect to sin and righteousness and judgment?
In certain circles, there seems to be a lack of understanding of who the Spirit is and what He does.

Baby steps is right. Slain in the Spirit! That is a completely scary thought to some SDAs. I remember one lady on one forum that I frequent saying that she was raised penecostal or something like that, and as a child she prayed that if that was what the Holy Spirit did to you, she did not want it. I thought that was extemely sad and unfortunate for her. Who else if not God would you allow to have such all comsuming power over your life?

It means to be crucified with Christ in the fellowship of his sufferings for his people. A few are chosen for this sacrifice.
God ordains all things. All things are ours. We belong to Christ. Christ belongs to God.

It's not necessarily a conscience decision to be possessed by an evil spirit. What I have seen of 'being slain in the spirit' by watching video of Copeland, Haggee, Hinn and others causing the entire congregation to laugh or fall down is at the least, mass hypnosis and at it's most extreme, outright possession. Copeland and another minister, Hinn I believe, were talking to each other on stage with what could best be described as demonic language... at least that was my impression. Very creepy stuff...
The Biblical gift of speaking in tongues is not what is being exibited in the majority of cases, imo. The apostles were given the gift of being able to speak another mans tongue for undestanding. What I have witnessed in Pentecostal churches was someone speaking an unknown language and not for the benefit of anyone in the room of that dialect, needing to be interpreted by another english speaking person... that is confusion and we know who the author of confusion is.

Do I believe that God, through the prayer and supplication of brethren can heal, absolutely! And we are told that during the time of the latter rain that God will pour out His Spirit upon His people to do even greater miracles than the apostles at pentecost.
Do I believe in someone having an evangelism ministry based on healing that rakes in millions of dollars and lives a lifestyle that is far from the example of Christ... absolutely not!!

2 Thess 2:9-12
the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

The basic way to examine the spirit that moves us is to see if we have "pleasure in unrighteousness", for by our fruits do we know our hearts.
Rom 1:32
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. KJV
What do we love to hear and see and think upon in our non-religious moments?
The works of the flesh will not inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal 5:19-21
19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. KJV
Miracles are not a fruit of the Spirit of Jesus. Miracles and healing are gifts of the spirit, but they are not salvation in Jesus Christ. We should not boast and compare ourselves among ourselves concerning the gifts that our Lord gives us to edify his Body. When we glory in the gift, then we are glorying in the flesh.
Gal 5:22-25
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. KJV
Gen 2:16-17
16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. KJV
Rev 22:1-2
1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. KJV
