What does "let mercy hold you" mean?

I suppose that if one wants the care of God, they will let His mercies lead and keep them, but I surely don't know what the singer or songwriter had in mind. There are many religious songs that use expressions that do not even follow the Word of God.

God is merciful (Psa 116) which means being kind, compassionate, and showing favor. Eph 2 states that He is rich in mercy and has great love for us. Prov 28 says when we confess our sins and forsake them, we have His mercy. Plus numerous other Scripture about His mercy. Yahweh doesn't have to show us mercy but He does. Hold means to have, to keep in a specified state, to grasp, to keep from departing, to bind by a contract, to support, to stay securely fastened.
