• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

The use of the word tendencies means that he/she is not prepared to diagtnose you with BPD just yet, but taht you are displaying ssome of the behaviors that are symptomatic of BPD.

Google Borderline Personality Disorder to read the 9 criterion of BPD, to see what the behaviors are that are symptomatci of BPD to get a better understanding.

You are also too young to give a definite diagnosis of BPD too.

The initial criteria says that the Borderline behaviours have to be a pattern of behaviours exhibited as an adult and you are not yet an adult. Another thing to remember is that some symptoms of BPD can overlap with Bipolar disorder. Basically your consultant is being open minded about your diagnosis, which is a good thing.

I was in a mental hospital for two weeks because I was self injurying. On my release papers, the doctor said that I suffered from bipolar disorder mixed and borderline personality disorder "tendencies". I have no clue what "tendencies" mean in this situation. If someone knows, could you please explain?

Hi there, thanks for sharing your situation with us. First of all, I'd like to emphasize that you are very brave for getting help. It's a major step towards feeling like yourself again!

As for your diagnosis, as has been said, your doctor is basically keeping an open mind. I don't have any "official" diagnosis myself - I'm also somewhere between Bipolar II and BPD. My doctor tells me that when bipolar and BPD seem to overlap, the medication/method of therapy isn't much different for these illnesses. Now, that isn't definite, but that's how it has been in my experience.

Stay strong and surround yourself with the people you love and trust. Seek counseling, and be gentle and patient with yourself. You will get back on your feet - it just takes a little time.

 I'm with you.
