What does it mean to trust in Jesus?

What does it mean to you to believe in Jesus? To me, among other things, it means to trust in him on the day of judgement by allowing him to speak on my behalf. "If anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense— Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1John 2

Do you trust Jesus to speak in your defense on the judgement day?

"When a man works, his wages are not credited to him as a gift, but as an obligation. However, to the man who does not work but trusts God who justifies the wicked, his faith is credited as righteousness." 1John 4:4,5

If you are talking about believing in Jesus for Salvation.... getting saved.... then...

To trust in Jesus you must start by not trusting in yourself....Quit looking to anything that you can do. Stop depending on your works to gain acceptance with God. Stop thinking that your willingness to do good earns you brownie points. Stop thinking that your promises to be good, your moral resolve to quit this, your pious commitment to do that, will help you to obtain eternal life. You need to admit that you are so sinful you can't do anything.

Then trust and believe that you are now right with God simply because Jesus paid for your sins at the cross. Believe that He is the Divine Son of God and that by His death God's wrath against your sin was totally satisfied and so you are now saved by His grace. Trust that Jesus alone saves you ... apart from all your works.

Is this being presumptuous? Do you have the right to be so bold as to boldly claim salvation by faith? Yes, because the gospel invites you to do so. Rev 22:17 "whoever desires LET HIM take of the water of life FREELY." Do you desire to be saved by Christ alone apart from your works? If you desire this then you are permitted to take it freely.

It is not about waiting till the "judgment day", but right now, for one will not find salvation and any hope by waiting till the day of judgment; for that is only a day of sentencing and not pleading our cause, etc. Read all of John 3 and John 14 to see the truth of RECEIVING and trusting the Savior --the Lord Jesus Christ, with DEVOTION to Him. DON'T WAIT!

So am I saved when I believe in Jesus or when Jesus died for me on the cross? To hear some preach it, I have to believe in Jesus to 'get saved' implying there is something for me to do which is false. We cannot save ourselves. All we can do is believe that Jesus has already saved us, past tense, 2000 years ago. What I receive today is finished and complete and was accomplished by Christ independent of human input.

This is false. We are all sinners and all our righteousness is as filthy rags to a just and holy God. He will not accept our efforts no matter how sincere. Our motivations are impure and selfish and usually based on reward or merit. God will only accept the sacrifice of Christ and his spotless righteousness. The gospel is about what Christ has done for man not what I do for him.

When it comes to salvation .... you cannot blend grace and works together. They are like oil and water, they cannot be mixed.

Justification is by belief alone and even faith is a gift of grace. It's all grace and no work from the sinner whatsoever. Works come afterward.

What does Jesus advice us? In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus advices us: " The first and great Commandment is: " Love God with thy heart, with all thy soul,
and with all thy mind. The second is like it: " Love thy neighbour as thyself."
In verse 40 Jesus tells us: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." God is Love and God wants it from us: love freely given and NO condition tagged on. God sees our loving efforts, and God approves
and blesses us. In Matthew 7: 7-10: we are told: " ask and you shall receive,"
God sees our loving efforts, and God blesses us. We keep Loving and Caring for our Heavenly Father and for our neighbour, and we show to Jesus that we Love and trust Jesus enough, to follow His Loving advice. We might stumble and forget at times, but then we ask God to forgive us, and carry on Loving and Caring. (our neighbour is all we know and all we meet, friends and not friends.
The Bible tells us to: Repent and be Born Again," give up all selfish wishes and wants, and love and care for our neighbour. Love is very catching, and we will find that people around us will treat us the same as we treat people.
Love is a Christian`s great weapon, we can overcome all anger and wrong behaviour. The Holy Spirit will help and guide us, and Jesus our Saviour

Goats do not become sheep through their works. The shepherd knows who is a sheep and who is a goat (as they have been from the beginning) and he separates them (with the Holy Spirit). His sheep are given faith, which leads to works. The goats may see the sheep and try to emulate them (as the self-righteous do), but their works are done without the wisdom of the Holy Spirit and tend to glorify self instead of God.

Jesus was simply challenging those who thought they could be justified by law to try it. They will fail and consequently abandon the salvation by works idea and be prepared to accept salvation by grace through faith alone.

Matt 25 speaks of judgment - the 2 groups are the saved and unsaved. Those who are saved WILL do what God wants. The unsaved won't. Why do some do what God wants and others don't?

Matt 7 - again, the saved (obey) are wise... no doubt. The unsaved are fools.
Why are they different? what causes 1 group to obey and 1 not to? What if someone was busy, busy doing good deeds but don't know God? Maybe they just like those earthly rewards to put on their wall or in their scrapbook?

The commands of Jesus are to repent and believe the gospel. The obedience that Jesus requires is one of faith and love. Only born again Christians can truly obey Jesus. Everyone one else who tries to obey will have a legal obedience similar to the Scribes and Pharisees. Jesus said unless your obedience exceeds this you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
