Hi,

They say personal relationship with God or Jesus.
What does this mean ?

I do understand as human we need a standard to evaluate ourselfs our deeds our thoughts. The bible, God is our standard.
If we dont adopt God's standard, fornication, homosexuality would be ok so long all parties consented.

They say personal relationship with God Jesus, thing is God has never really spoken to me or manifested himself to me, that is if I critically analyse the cases.
What I define a personal relationship is, is like a relationship with a real human, u talk to him, he talks to you, we discuss stuff etc. Thing is this type of communication seems not to happen with God.

Some claim they hear the voice of God but I do have my doubts on critical analysis, ofc I am not gonna be a jerk to disprove him, we can always discuss and analysis together, but not gonna do that, it is impolite, imo.
Thing is some are con man, they say I can hear God, you not, so I am more spiritual than you etc.

I do try to use the bible to evalaute myself, but this is being guided by the bible, not really a personal relationship with God or Jesus.

I do pray when I sin, I do pray for stuff like healing, provision, but prayer seems one directional information transfer, me to God, never have I experience information transfer God to me.

Br,

Br,
These are good questions. Let's look at what the Bible says about God personally interracting with humans...

God personally reveals Himself to lost people, they understand it, but they reject it...

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. (Ro 1:18–21)

God personally involves Himself in every salvation experience...

44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 45 It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. (Jn 6:44–45)

God personally gives wisdom to everyone who asks...

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. (Jas 1:5–8)

God personally corrects every one of His children...

5 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons:
“My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,
Nor be discouraged when you are rebuked by Him;
6 For whom the LORD loves He chastens,
And scourges every son whom He receives.”
7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons. 9 Furthermore, we have had human fathers who corrected us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much more readily be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they indeed for a few days chastened us as seemed best to them, but He for our profit, that we may be partakers of His holiness. 11 Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. (Heb 12:5–11)

So, you can look back at your salvation experience and try to identify God the Father's interraction with you that led you to trust in Jesus, you can look back at all the times you asked God for wisdom and He gave it to you, and you can look back at all the times God corrected you when you went astray. You will find that His "voice" sounds the same in in all these circumstances. If you pay attention going forward, you will eventually come to the conclusion that He is personally involved in your life and communication with Him is indeed a two-way conversation.

Adam lost his personal relationship with God because of his sin. We can regain what was lost through Christ. This involves heard prayers (1Tim 2:1), Christ in us (Col 1:27), us in Christ (Eph 5:30), if allowed (1Thess 5:19), the Holy Spirit transforming us (Gal 5:22-23), and iff allowed having the mind of Christ (Phil 2:5).

The transformative aspect of Christianity is not often practiced and may not be that well known. It is maturing out of the selfishness of the flesh into the selflessness of love (1Cor 13:4-7). The object of this transformation is Christ-likeness (Eph 4:13).

As we progress and transform to move away from the flesh, we become more able to receive grace (Jam 4:6) and know the peace of Christ (Phil 4:7). The peace of Christ is not the absence of trouble, but the ability to have peace in the midst of trouble.

The idea of relationship we usually have is sitting around with people we like having a good time. This is not the best way to think of a relationship with Christ. We have an intimate connection with someone who loved us so much as to die for us. We will always be with him (1Thess 4:17). We have his Spirit to encourage and comfort us and his words to instruct us. We may enjoy more of the "pals" type relationship after our resurrection when we no longer have our sin nature and are no longer in the world.

When people are born again by the Holy Spirit, there is a spiritual transformation in that person.

This spiritual transformation allows people to converse and work with God while they live their lives.

This is part of why it is talked about as a personal relationship.

Hi,

They say personal relationship with God or Jesus.
What does this mean ?
It means that Christ is not only risen from the dead but is also available to commune with.
He resurrected bodily as a man yet also transfigured Himself into a form in which we can personally (and collectively) know Him.

He became a divine life imparting Spirit - So also it is written, “The first man, Adam, became a living soul”; the last Adam became a life-giving Spirit. (1 Cor. 15:45)

The life giving Spirit is here to give life (the divine and uncreated life of God) imbodied in the resurrected Son of God, into us.
It is THE most intimate and personal relationship a human being can have.

Christ as "life giving Spirit" mingles and blends with our innermost being if we RECEIVE Him.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the authority to become children of God, to those who believe into His name,
Who were begotten not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (John 1:12,13)

The human innermost spiritual being, the human spirit becomes divine life because of justification of Christ's redemption.
the [human] spirit is life because of righteousness. (Rom. 8:10c)

The kernel - the very nucleus of the human being is made one with Jesus Christ.
But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit. (1 Cor. 6:17)

The eternal uncreated Spirit who is the triune God bears witness with the human spirit that there is henceforth
a life relationship between God and man as a Father to a child.
The Spirit Himself witnesses with our spirit that we are children of God. (Rom. 8:16)

This life giving Spirit is Christ Himself in another form as the Comforter, the Paraclete who will be with the reborn one for eternity - forever.
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Comforter, that He may be with you forever, (John 14:16)

I do understand as human we need a standard to evaluate ourselfs our deeds our thoughts. The bible, God is our standard.
If we dont adopt God's standard, fornication, homosexuality would be ok so long all parties consented.
You and I can never overcome sinning.
Being a Christian involves realizing that at best we are all failures.

But there is One living within us who is the Victor and can overcome the world, the flesh, sin, and death. That is the indwelling Lord
Jesus Christ. He has to be touched by calling on His name. He has to become in us the One who lives rather than us.
Rather we abide in Him as a branch abides in a vine. ALL of the riches, health, and well being of the vine flow into the abiding branches.

Abide in Me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me.
I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. (John 15:4,5)

Someone may ask "How does one abide in Jesus Christ?"
The first step is to SEE that He is the True Vine and we are the branches.
The first step is to realize and stand upon the fact that we are IN Him deriving all of our life FROM Him.

We have Paul as an example. He stood upon the truth that Christ was his history, his legacy, his past, his present, his future unto eternity.
It was Christ living in him. He saw it and would never let it go.
I am crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. (Gal. 2:20)

A personal relationship with Christ is the truth of the fact that part of our being has become God Himself in a joined "organic" mingling
of Christ with our innermost being.

Paul did not want the Christians to be igorant of the truth - Jesus Christ was in them.
Test yourselves whether you are in the faith; prove yourselves. Or do you not realize about yourselves that Jesus Christ is in you, unless you are disapproved? (2 Cor. 13:5)

They say personal relationship with God Jesus, thing is God has never really spoken to me or manifested himself to me, that is if I critically analyse the cases.
That is abnormal. And you should not settle for it.
Neither should you expect God's speaking to you will always be dramatic or spectacular.

When you wake in the morning perhaps the viery FIRST thing you should say is something like this -
"Lord Jesus, today I RECEIVE You Lord. I allow You enterance into my open heart. Come live in me today Lord Jesus. And THANKYOU."

Yesterday you put under the blood of Christ. You past sins are cleansed and forgotten for His name sake.
Tomorrow is not here yet. You only have TODAY to live with Christ responding to His still small voice.

A Christians should have God's speaking all the time. Like a little child though usually the speaking of God is "No."
God in the beginning of our walk with Him gives us a lot of "No."
"No. Don't speak that which you usually spoke before."
"No. Don't look at that as you were in the habit of looking before. Enjoy Me instead."
"No. You thought those thoughts in the past. Now think differently. Think of My word and of the enjoyment of Me."
"No. In the past your reacted that way. This time choose to say 'Lord Jesus, I love You.' "

Every act of denying your old way and going along with His speaking results in you becomming stronger in grace.
Every act of heeding His speaking will make your sense of His presence keener, finer, and stronger.
By obeying His speaking in small things He will gain more and more ground in your heart.

Then you learn to CALL on His name, like breathing - "Lord Jesus. O Lord Jesus. O Lord JESUS. I love You Lord Jesus. Lord JESUS You love me."
In the heat of temptation you do not strive and struggle to resist. Rather you just turn you heart to the victorious One living within you - Jesus.
"O Lord Jesus. Lord Jesus. Lord I love You."

By touching Him by calling on His name the epowering grace of Christ will spontaneously flow into your being.
The Lord hears your voice.

I love Jehovah because He hears / My voice, my supplications,
Because He inclines His ear to me; / Therefore I will call upon Him all my days. (Psalm 116:1,2)

So get to know the indwelling Lord Jesus by calling on His name. You need not always be loud.
Just to whisper His name like breathing is so effective. It is like drinking God as salvation from a cup.

What shall I return to Jehovah / For all His benefits toward me?
I will take up the cup of salvation / And call upon the name of Jehovah. (vs. 12,13)

Learn to have His name often on your lips. And I mean as you also turn your heart of love towards Him as the living God that He is.
It is a sacrifice of praise. It is to deny your typical reaction and turn, turn, turn your being toward Jesus Christ instead.

To You I will offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving, / And I will call upon the name of Jehovah. (v.17)

You are weak because you do not call on the name of the Lord enough.
You need to open your mouth and open your heart and call on the Lord.
You need to be as a salmon fish swimming upstream against the current.
You need to turn to your innermost praying organ and be strengthened into your inner man calling "Lord Jesus, I DO love You."

If you call on His name with your heart turned to Him for five minutes, your spirit will be on fire.
I encourage you to open your mouth more in reading aloud the Scriptures and calling on the name of the Lord.
Christ has to become a sheer ENJOYMENT to you rather than a religious duty.

No doubt I have and must have the word. But the word without the anointing will never do.
The audience of First John had only the Old Testament Scriptures and the teaching and fellowhip of the apostles.

But it was critical that they also have something called "the anointing".
As it suggests this is a kind of moving around and painting of our inner being with the Spirit.

God is leading us by rubbing around the Spirit as an ointment coating us within with a Person - Christ.

And you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know. (1 John 2:20)

Along with the Bible we who have received Christ have this inward anointing of the Spirit.
It is really a Person. And He moves around within us like Vick's Vapor Rub - rubbing His personality into ours as we obey the teaching of
the anointing. As a kid when I was sick with cold, my mother would rub this Vapor Rub around my chest for a soothing medicine.
This is an illustration and not an exact analogy.

With His living word the anointing teaches the believer to abide in Him, linger in His presence, and log more and more time
with the sense of God's smile in our heart.

And as for you, the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone teach you; but as His anointing teaches you concerning all things and is true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, abide in Him. (v. 27)

The teaching of the anointing is a subjective speaking to God deeper than any natural human to human communication can do.
So abiding in Christ and being guided by the anointing of the Spirit is not the same as a natural communication between people

I heard something about anointment movement, in my opinion there is something wrong there. People of the movement think like this, I have the anointment you dont, so I am higher than you, so you better listen to me, sow your money seed, they get rich of the back of innocent poor people, God only hears my prayers and not yours. See all those abuse cases in Africa of so called anointed pastors.

What u are describing is what I have said ,u are guided by the contents of the bible. Have God ever communicated with u like how u communicate with ur humans friends ?

God lets you know stuff, to his childs, he is going to make you know things. After all you receive His spirit. Add any gift the Holy spirit may give you like discernment etc. Jesus is not going to adopt you for you to live your christian life alone by yourself, the bible says the Holy spirit is helper and comforter, He is alive, we need to seek Him.

While John speaks of the teaching of the anointing Paul speaks also of the sense of life and peace.
The Christian who sets his mind on the spirit within where he is one with the Holy Spirit is guided
by the sense of divine life and divine peace.

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the spirit is life and peace. (Rom. 8:6)

This is a sense of well being, fulness, comfort in the human spirit.
As opposed it is to a sense of vanity, uneasiness, darkness, empytiness.

The Lord Spirit is in the regenerated human spirit. And the believer must learn to set the mind on the mingled spirit.
That is the Spirit with our spirit is mingled as "one spirit".

So with the word of God we also need to set the mind on the mingled spirit to sense the life and peace of Christ's presence.

This sense of God's life and God's peace is an umpire. He is an arbitrator to decide for us and among Christians
the way of God in contrast to a way apart from God.

This passages shows that the believer needs both the word of Christ to dwell richly within and to allow this peace of Christ
to led, decide, arbitrate matters in our daily walk.

And let the peace of Christ arbitrate in your hearts, to which also you were called in one Body; and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God. (Col. 3:15,16)

I heard something about anointment movement, in my opinion there is something wrong there.
There is nothing wrong with the promise of the New Testament.
Like any other matter we require form God patience, spiritual maturity, discernment is applied to our experience of what is written.

We do not throw up our hands and sigh "Oh that's a problem!".
We ask God to help us learn. And we trust His word as the truth.

And you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know. (1 John 2:20)

We should seek always that we imitate by experience the rich partaking of salvation of those who are inheriting the promises of God.
That you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and long-suffering are inheriting the promises. (Heb. 6:12)

We should be long-suffering and patient to learn our inheritance as Christians.
In your natural life you do not go from a new born babe to full adulthood instantaneously.
The milk of the word of God should with patience cause us to grow unto a richer and richer enjoyment of salvation.

As newborn babes, long for the guileless milk of the word in order that by it you may grow unto salvation, (1 Pet. 2:2)

People of the movement think like this,
The teaching of the anointing is a promise of God's word which you claim to revere.
If we are easily discouraged by some "movement" we may never believe in the Son of God.
If we are easuly discouraged by some "movement" we also may find excuses not to study the Bible.

Look for those who will encourage your faith.
Don't hunt for those who will give you reasons to be discouraged about your faith.

I have the anointment you dont,
You said that. I did not.
I QUOTED the word of God which tells all believers that they have an anointing from the Holy One.

And as for you, the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone teach you; but as His anointing teaches you concerning all things and is true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, abide in Him. (v. 27)

If you have received the Lord Jesus you have whether you like it or not - the anointing which you have received from Him
Now if you have not received the Lord Jesus then you may legitimately worry that you have no such anointing.

But if you have received the Lord then - you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know. (1 John 2:20)

You may say "But I saw some nonsense taking place from a movement about the anointing. So I don't want to believe the New Testament."
That is not the way to grow, mature or be an imitator of those who are indeed inheriting the promises.

Pray "Lord Jesus, lead me to those who can help and cultivate my enjoyment of You. Lord guard me of any who would
be a discouragement to my faith."

The Lord says to each of us "[You]
follow Me." What some others may do is their matter to answer one day to the Lord for.
He says to you
"[YOU] follow Me."
so I am higher than you, so you better listen to me, sow your money seed, they get rich of the back of innocent poor people, God only hears my prayers and not yours. See all those abuse cases in Africa of so called anointed pastors.
With as much rational others have claimed it was therefore useless to believe the Gospel.
With as much rational others have claimed it is a waste of time to read the Bible.
"Because of Pastor So-and-So I have decided that I should not listen to the Scripture in this regard."

I don't hunt for bones to choke on when I sit down to a turkey dinner.
I am not going to take scissors and remove promises from the word of God because some Pastor-So-and-So's excesses have discouraged me.

The Lord has said to me "[YOU] follow Me."
And I intend to be one who enjoys the promises of the Scripture.
There is such a thing as being a "cautious failure."

I want to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints.
I found it necessary to write to you and exhort you to earnestly contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints. (Jude 3b)

Snake handlers showing off, clergy bossing people around and claiming spiritual authority for themselves not withstanding.
These things do not discourage me. I ask the Lord to keep me with brothers and sisters who will encourage my faith rather than
furnish me with reasons to doubt because of their bad behavior.

These things are nothing new. From the first century until today thier have been those with whom the blessing of the Lord
is highly questionable. Sometimes YOU YOURSELF may have also given some seeking one doubt.
So learn to forgive and avoid stumbling blocks. You too may have caused someone to say "This Christian thing is problematic. I think I'll stay away because of this guy."

The system works like this in some christian cults. They leaders influence the people below them to be their slaves, the leaders living in multi million dollars mansion from the money collexted from the members, while the members live in poverty.

Br,
Jesus Christ of Nazareth Said this :

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

He makes His Home in the believer through His Holy Spirit. He never leaves us because we are now in Him. Many describe this as a " personal relationship " but it is more than a relationship it is a Holy Union.
Blessings.

Br,
It means that one puts God first in their life, His will over our own. We foster this relationship through prayer, reading and studying His Word, through church and obedience to God and what He commands. . God speaks to us through His Word John 1:1 Hebrews 1:2 and the Holy Spirit guides us to remember everything God's says (through His Word) John 14:26 His Word is to be the light to our path to guide us Psa 119:105. God's Word is His love letter to His children and we are told to live by His every Word Mat 4:4

It's good you are confessing your sins, this is very powerful, and I always ask Jesus to reveal any hidden sin I may have covered. I would be careful of the doctrine that we can't overcome sin. In essence this is saying the devil has more power to keep us in sin than Jesus does to free us from sin, but that's not what the scriptures teach. We are saved from sin Mat 1:21, not in sin as we must confess and forsake our sins Pro 28:13 and sin is breaking God's law 1 John 3:4 and of the Ten Commandments James 2:10-12 Rom 7:7 Mat 5:19-30 and anything that is not of faith Rom 14:23. While we can't obey on our own we can through Jesus Christ who gives us His Spirit through our love and faith in Him so we can obey John 14:15-18 Acts 5:32 If we stumble along the way Jesus is our Advocate and High Priest and we can go directly to Him when we sin or break God's law when we are truly sorry for sinning, which means having a change of direction. When He heals He says so and sin no more- so He would not ask if that was not possible. We can do all things through Christ Phil 4:13 even overcoming sin- its a promise of scripture Rev 14:12

God bless.

Br,
If I were to write you a personal letter ... am I communicating with you? Yes I am.

Man (in our current state) can not be in the physical presence of God.

God chose His written word to be the main way He communicates with us. Some will say they were led by God to do this or that ... maybe ... maybe not. We can also be led by the evil one who can even appear as a angel of light ... so we use the Word of God to discern these things.

He also works in the heart/mind ... so a kind of telepathy of sorts ... sometimes we just know things or things come to our mind that we believe we should question.

God's main thing is He don't want His people to sin (transgression of the law) and through His written word we have many examples of what that is.

We are free to make many decisions but they are not to be sinful ones, just because something don't work out ... don't mean God was against it ... nor if they do work out God was for it.

We are not privy to all of God's ways ... we trust no matter what happens that ultimately He will work for the good of His people.

Trust.
