Salvation is by believing in and on the person (name) and work of Jesus Christ, it is not based on believing his teaching (word).
Many believe his teaching but do not believe in him.

Jesus came to reveal and reconcile man with God. When we see Jesus, we see God. When we believe in, hope in, and love Jesus, we believe in, hope in, and love God.What does it mean to believe in a name?
Wouldn't that also include everything the person stands for, therefore His words also?

We do have a NC law--the law of Christ.Those who believe in Christ love him and keep his commandments.

We have the fulfillment of Law living in us, our subordination is to him,
And perfect love lives in us.Love works no il to his neighbor, therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

John is hoping we will believe that Jesus is the Messiah; the Messenger of the covenant. [ Malachi 3:1 ]
If we believe that Jesus is the Messiah and understand what that means [ Deuteronomy 18:18-19, Acts 3:23 ]
we therefore have to listen to Jesus.
Yes, I tell others to believe in Jesus.If you believe that good news is still for salvation today, that is what you will tell others to believe in.
