  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ok, so if Harry Potter allegedly teaches people about witchcraft (Aside from the fact that real witchcraft is NOTHING like Harry Potter) and magic and all that stuff, what exactly can I learn from reading Harry Potter?

What specific spells and rituals can I learn from Harry Potter?

Here's an interesting dichotomy - The Harry Potter books allegedly teach about witchcraft, magic, and the occult. The bible, on the other hand, never mentions a word about talking animals, spirits, demons, raising the dead, a man performing miracles (magic). Nope, we can't allow our children to watch movies and read books that might teach about these things! Oh, wait...

well... call this medieval but why don't we just do some of the spells in Harry Potter. if they work then it is teaching witchcraft, if they do not work then it isn't. either way the question is answered and maybe we can approach the book from a more... literary... angle :)

Christianus Annoyus?
Invoka Donohoa?

and the most especially dreaded ....

Dumbledorius Begayus! Guaranteed to turn all young admirers of Harry Potter into frothing, insatiable homosexuals.

Harry Potter teaches about the power of love and overcoming fear of death.

Harry was saved because of his mother's love. He made it through to the end because of his friends.

Voldemort was driven to the utmost evil by his desire to live eternally. He was terrified of the end. Harry, on the other hand, faced his own demise and triumphed.

These books don't teach the occult. A reader who understands the difference between fantasy and reality will find the lessons that he can actually apply to his own life.

They do not work. Period. Actually, if you can prove that anything supernatural at all exists, there's a million dollar prize with your name on it.
This prize has been around for a while, it has never been won.

It teaches the values of friendship and loyalty, over social climbing
and family status
That bigotry is often based of ignorance and fear.
That fundermentalism is dangerous and authority should be questioned. Rebellion for the right reason is a good, brave and costly thing.
That dictators/idols often build their images on lies and can display psycopathic behaviour at an early age. And idolising them will
end in a path of evil and death...
That slavery is cruel and will bring vengance and mistrust.
That redemption is always possible, even if the cost is high.
That war kills the innocent
and that Gay men can be great Headmasters....

And that love is what determines our humanity.

You can learn that writing FILTH can make you lots of $$$. That is about it.

You can learn that introducing children to the occult in this day and age can garner you mucho denaro.

This trash would have been burned years ago. Now it makes millions.

Read 'How Shall We Then Live' by Dr. F. Schaffer. You then may realize what I am saying.

Wow. Deep.

War kills evil dirtbags like Adolf Hitler.

Homosexuals should never be around children in a position of authority!!! Ever!!!

H.P. is vile and introduces children to the OCCULT!!! And not in the way the Holy Bible teaches.

The Word of God has witchcraft in it, but only to explain that it is not to be messed with. It is evil in the sight of God.

The only reason I read Harry Potter was to learn how to fly on a broom and play Quidditch, eat candy that moved, make myself invisible with a cloak. Not ONE of the spells worked. When I went to a fabric store and asked where the invisible cloak material was, because I couldn't see it, the asian woman said that she couldn't understand what I meant.

Then, trying to learn about how to be evil and learn more about the occult, Harry Potter fights Voldemort, and evil spirit that people are afraid to even name. So, am I evil and fighting evil? Harry's enemy is Milfoy, a terrible child that is rude, arrogant, and delights in Harry's misfortune. But Harry is loyal, and has to be brave, and take the higher road.

Is being brave and loyal to your friends a bad thing?

I'm so confused.

Mate, if your earlier assertion that writing filth makes big bucks is true, then judging by your posts in this thread, you should be pretty well set up for life.

Reading rubbish like this makes me more and more certain that my decision to leave Christianity was the right one.
