What does it matter? We are never going to see god...EVER. If we really love god and appreciate what he has done for us, we should not worry about how god looks like. This would be the equivilant to say " Hey, I recieved a house, food, clothing, and water from the Salvation Army bought by an anonomous doner! I was in so much need after the disaster. I want to see his face or I will not accept these gifts!"

Come on. You guys are pathetic trying to figure out what he looks like. You guys know there is no answer to the question.

THIS THREAD IS OFFICIALLY OVER
I don't think the poster felt that the actual form of God was important, so much. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think the question is more about how we mentally perceive God, and how individual traditions and beliefs can shape that perception.

Have you ever really thought what God actually might look like? Do you have a personal view of God's image or have you never really thought about it. I'm writing a short magazine piece on the image of God and I'm interested in your views. For example do you have an image of God as a person guiding us in our lives or do you think of Him in another way?

God looks like...nothing, and God looks like everything. God looks like a tree, a rock, a human being. God looks like a flaring sun, a shooting star, a barren planet. God looks like a black hole, a shadow, a tear drop. God looks like a dance of swirling energy particles.

Okey dokey. I think the person flaming won't be coming back to flame, since he's realized that it's wrong.

Well, how do other countries view Alah? Do the people who worship him have a picture of him as well?
I don't they'd admt to it. Muslims have very strict rules against icons. that's why mosques are only decorated with weird shapes.
Many believers say that Alah is the SAME god as the god of christianity.
Well, they worship the God of Abraham, although they reverse the Isaac-Ishmael thing/

God looks like an extremely attractive woman, like Xenia Seeberg, or God is a snail.

Yup.

Again, yup.

Arabic Christian and Jewish Bibles actually use the word "Allah" instead of the english "God".

Going "I don't think they worship the God of Abraham, they worship ALLAH!" is just plain ignorant.

I think that God probably looks like light, what ever the essence of the source of light is, that is God, we probably cannot really look and see God, greatfully we have Jesus to look at...he is probably dark skinned with dark hair, i like the long haired Jesus personally and i am a sucker for facial hair. I wonder if he is muscular, he was a carpenter, i sometimes wonder what his skin smells like, or what his hair feels like. I know it must be perfect.

The Blind Men and the Elephant

by John Godfrey Saxe

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation Might satisfy his mind

The First approached the Elephant,
nd happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant Is very like a wall!"

The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, "Ho! what have we here
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me ’tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a spear!"

The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a snake!"

The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee.
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he;
" ‘Tis clear enough the Elephant Is very like a tree!"

The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: "E’en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can
This marvel of an Elephant Is very like a fan!"

The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than, seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a rope!"

And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!

Moral:

So oft in theologic wars,
The disputants, I ween,
Rail on in utter ignorance
Of what each other mean,
And prate about an Elephant
Not one of them has seen!
