What does Ellen White mean by "lesser light"

There was a recent cover article in Adventist Today asking the question is Ellen White a lesser light? The article covers more then that but I wrote a response which I posted on my blog More on Ellen White as Lesser light

I sent the article to the author of the Adventist Today article and got back a pretty pathetic response which from my past conversations with him I expected. A friend said I was likely right in my view but he did not feel it was a compelling enough argument (55- 45 in my favor)so I rewrote the article with a bit more evidence and reasoning included.

I would be interested in your opinion of the article.

If you read Ellen Whites work you will see it is very wonderful and it does agree with scripture. Her writings are indeed very inspirational and they have led many to Jesus Christ.

It is like this.

You cannot find the lightswitch when the power goes off so you use a lesser light(cellphone light) to find the propper light(greater one)

John was a lesser light to Jesus, Ellen is also a lesser light her testimony leads people to Christ but she is not THE light(Jesus)

Agreed every Christian is a lesser light compared to God. That is not the question however

Hello, If I may add, I once read what Ellen says about this, she described it as the 'lessor light' is the present truth for that generation which, passes on that lessor light to the next generation which, makes greater light of the lessor light. So the light supposedly shines brighter as it is passed on through the generations of Adventism.

Thats an excellent point Mog, sister White did not claim to be the end of understanding. We are to continue to receive additional knowledge as we grow in our spiritual perfection and pray for the outpouring of the latter rain.

To what specfically are you referring to, what quote? Present turth is mentioned in the quote I use in my article but it is not in the context you refer.

The lesser light prepares the heart and mind to receive the greater light.

The lesser light must decrease that the greater light may increase.
