I agree we haven't had the urge to just take land for the sake but land with resources-the Middle East drama obviously was about oil. Past tense-oil. But in the last few decades we adapted a new behavior which was not obtain resources but essentially to outsource the principle one which is labor. And now we're seeing where the greed has become a national security threat.
Well we hope that this pandemic has a lesson in it that you can't outsource the majority of your resources be it as benign as a surgical mask. If health is jeopardized, then so is security of the nation. This is not to say we should not conduct trade or have to open up branches of a company in another country be it a local bank or a manufacturing plant of a common good to help other economies but we should not outsource a product for cheap labor & then have to import that same product back by ship. Pay the wages here & be done with it.
