What do you use CF for?

I'm new here and I'm excited about this place. I'm shocked to see how vast it is and how many people are on it. It's pretty awesome. My thanks and compliments to the founders and all the folks who keep it running so well. I've already been very active and have been in a few lively debates in my short time but I'm still getting the feel for what I want to do. I enjoy debating but I think I only want to do that occasionally. I won't be able to resist jumping in once in awhile but I don't think I'd like that intensity too often. This place can be anything a person makes of it and I've decided I want to be positive and uplifting. I'm still in the exploring stage but would like to get comments, especially from you veterans of CF.....but everybody else too. What do you like to do the most here? Thanks again to everyone who makes CF possible.

I think it is a great outlet for sharing what I believe God reveals to me out of His word. It helps me to get my thoughts into writing. I am sure that the ministry books I have written in the last two or three years have been made possible by me developing my writing skills in the posts and debates I have had on CF. I also use it for fellowship and ministry and I hope that what I have written has strengthens folks faith in Christ.

It is a good place to hone one's skills at explaining one's beliefs.

i go to this site to give and get support in my day to day life as someone who suffers from a mental illness, and have found some excellent fellow believers to have fellowship with and get support from.

i also like it that it hones my ability at put my thoughts in words and provides a kaleidescope of different view points and believes to challenge and sharpen my own insights about God and faith.

What I enjoy most of all is times when we share things we really love in the scriptures and in songs with and among our brothers and sisters who also enjoy these. There are many compelling discussions, but this is the single sweetest thing for me. Also, I personally enjoy taking the humble road in discussion, that is even more humble than before, and how wonderful that makes me feel. I feel it's a good moment.
And He said: "Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." (Mat 18)
And "...knowledge puffs up while love builds up. Those who think they know something do not yet know as they ought to know." (1 Cor 8)
So here I can practice following Him, and there are many brothers and sisters who do also.

Hello, and welcome to CF! You have been busy - I know I've seen your name somewhere already but I don't think I got a chance to welcome you.

I came to CF first to learn, and learn I did! I still enjoy learning how Theology develops over time and so how different denominations compare, and where the particular interpretations come from. I like learning what people think, and what they believe. I have had very real fellowship with some folks here, and visited some in person. I personally don't like to debate because I am concerned that the tone can put people off - maybe lurkers, who knows? - and I try very hard to post in love to everyone, though I have a lot further to go to always maintain that. But it's very good practice for me in treating people as I believe God wants us to treat each other - even though I fail at times. And sometimes I run across a good laugh, and truly enjoy making connections with people who might believe differently from myself as well, especially if we can appreciate what we do share in common.

I also like this thread - seeing what other people get out of it. I think CF is a truly unique online community in a number of ways - many things to many people.

I've posted on and off at various boards for many years. There are so many reasons it is difficult to know where to begin. I've learned a great deal through various boards over the years that I would not have otherwise. I like the format, it is kind of like interactive reading, or public correspondence letters in real-time. Anymore I enjoy sharing things mostly with the hope of building up fellow believers. It is especially nice to have a place where others have similar interests, and a place where other believers are concerned with loving the Lord with their minds, and you see the evidences in responses. Thank you for asking!

I think there's a dangerous aspect to the internet that most people don't consciously think about....

It's easy to find people who believe as you do on the internet (not just on religion, any topic really) and if a person chooses to only engage those who believe as they do...and ignore all others...it can lead to this false perception of who really agrees with oneself and who doesn't. One becomes more and more deeply entrenched in an ideological bubble which can be difficult to see outside of.

The best way to avoid this, in my opinion, is to seek out and engage those who believe differently from oneself. It allows one to develop a more realistic idea of the beliefs and motives of those who think differently from oneself...and in turn provides a better understanding of the world itself.

That's why I enjoy C.F. as an atheist.

...I don't suppose it also could have anything to do with the fact that if you converse with me (a type of Christian), I'm not going to attempt to humiliate you, cuss at you, belittle you, or claim that you have less than sufficient intelligence or maybe even poop for brains if you don't see things my way. [In fact, we all know you're a very intelligent atheist here at CF, even if we don't agree with you.]

However, when I participated over in one of those popular "atheist/un-christian" website forums, guess what kid of treatment I received for the most part?

Personally, I don't think anyone should, or needs to, seek out social and ideological conflict so as to better "expose" himself to what passes as "freedom of speech" and belittlement from nearly all quarters. That's not really an emotionally healthy place to be ... Besides, I notice that there is a fairly sizable number of atheists here at CF, so even if you are a minority here, you're still among your own company. When I was over at that other website, I could count the active number of Christians there literally on one hand.

No, for me, there are better ways to engage "other views."
