  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Who's to say the father plans on being involved in the pregnancy and the rearing of the child?

Its a reality. Its very easy for a man to get up and leave.

So change that. Who's to say the father does not want to be apart of HIS child's life?

Dear NDNgirl4ever,
EXACTLY! It's her body, her choice! No one else has the right to judge her or make a decision for her.
Why not? It is the phoetus which is the life who doesn’t get the choice?

I also agree that we need better sex education and better access to birth control. This abstinence only stuff they are pushing now just doesn't work.
The other way round actually. Abstinence isn’t being taught at present, though it used to be, and sex education and contraception is more widely available than ever yet the abortion rates rise.

The father is involved in the pregnancy, where do you think the sperm came from at conception?

Exactly but strangely you rarely ever see anyone asking but where was the father? And it seems to be automatically assumed that the father wasn;t given a chance to be involved in the child's life. No the woman is always the one who is solely blamed. It is a double standard really, kinda like how if a woman sleeps with anyone outside of marriage she is considered a harlot but if a man does it while maybe not considered good it is often times considered to be a man thing and not as bad as a woman sleeping with someone.

Again I will say, instead of killing babies lets make sure that fathers take responsibility. And while I agree there is an unfair double standard in many peoples eyes that does not change the fact that abortion is taking a life. However unfortunate it is it is not the child's fault. It amazes me how we Christians are so quick to fall into the norms of society. Justifying wrongs by stating it happens, lets be real, etc. etc. Lets be better than society, lets be better than the wrongs of this world. Are we not called to do so?

Her body!!! I didn't realize that human woman had 4 arms, 4 legs, 2 heads, 2 hearts, etc. etc. That child is not property. And that last time I checked that child had a father who is todays world is garbage as well.
Amen! I think it's wrong to abort no matter what the circumstances. As I think the OP pointed out what if the wrong test is done...I did a research paper on Down's for a Child Development class and I found out that there is something like 1 in 16 false positives in the amnios. I could not imagine having an abortion cause I didn't think I fault capable of taking care of a less than perfect child, only to find it it was perfect all along.

Personally I've called both men and women who have sex outside of a marriage a harlot. I don't buy the "it's how God made them" argument for a man's "need" to um get around. But sure some men, maybe many will run for the hills, some may be the one to suggest the abortion. But others still would love to have a chance with that child and it's taken from them cause "it's a woman's body she can do what she wants." And that's wrong!

It doesn't mean he'll take an active role in the rearing of that child.
It's very easy for a man to choose not to be involved.

Well, he can adopt. He can find a donor egg or a surrogate mother to carry his child. Or he could find another woman to have a child with.

Not necessarily, that means the sperm comes from the man which makes him the father.

It doesn't mean he'll take an active role in the rearing of that child.
That’s a separate point, the father is involved and you are wrong to say he isnt.

there is a difference between playing an active role in causing a pregnancy and an active role in raising the child. Quite a significant difference

oh yes granted but the comment made was that the father isnt involved, of course the truth is, he is, whether just by providing the sperm for conception or also loving and caring and bringing up the child.

I think everyone knows what the minimum involvement level of the father is.

Are you kidding me. Do you really think like this? We are talking about a man who ALREADY has a child growing inside the mothers womb. It is HIS child as well.

Really??? So what about the father that wants to take an active role in raising the child? He should have no say?

When men can carry babies, maybe the law can be changed.
But until then, a man should not have say with what a woman does with her body. Just as a woman doesn't have the right to force a man into not getting a vasectomy if he so pleases.

Even if the man in question is a sperm donor, he has to [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. Even if it is through masturbation.

And really, if its through another means of extraction, for say IVF, I highly doubt the couple in question would go for abortion unless it was absolutely nessecary. Not when it costs what it does.

Even in the case of a frozen sperm bank scenario, there is a wanted child. There is a key difference.

That’s a separate point, the father is involved and you are wrong to say he isnt.

He was involved in the creation of the zygote. That doesn't equal in all cases Active Role in Future Baby's Life, now does it?

If a man wants to prevent himself from ever CONCEIVING that's fine and dandy, same if a woman wants her tubes tied to prevent CONCEPTION. But to destroy an already conceived life should not be allowed and yes the father should have a say.

And I disagree entirely.

A man for one thing, can't conceive. A tubal ligation is a very invasive procedure - much more so than a vasectomy.

And thankfully, the law disagrees with you.

The man's opinion should certainly be considered however the woman should get the final say when it comes to keeping a pregnancy or not.
