  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

God bless,

Lissa
i think that God in His providence gave the revelation of Himself in Christ to the Gentiles and Jews in the Greek Language, so that the gospel message was brought to the entire known world at the time.

It is also for that reason that the Septuagent...the Greek Translation of the Old Testament and some additional works, created by 70 Scholars in the Torah...was given and quoted to the Gentiles and Jews by Jews such as the Apostle Paul and others.

Do you think Christian Gentiles should be Torah-observant?
i believe it was a Greek philosopher who said that "All is balance". It's probably sound advice, but our task here is to find out where that balance point is located.

There are some facts that can be determined from the New Testament. This question has come up long before, and i have to deal with the words of the preacher....
What has been will be, And that which has been done is that which will be done. So there is nothing new under the sun.
Ecclesiastes 1:9, NASB

The Apostles held a council in Jerusalem to deal with the issue of Gentile Christians. They concluded the Following:
  • Abstain from things contaminated by idols (Acts 15:20)
  • Abstain from fornication. (Acts 15:20)
  • Abstain from what is strangled (Acts 15:20)
  • Abstain from contact with blood (Acts 15:20)
No mention of the rest of the Law of Moses. The context of the passage (see Acts 15:1, 15:5) implies that they ruled against those who would have the Gentiles who were converted follow the Torah.

Another issue to consider is that Christ came to fulfill the Covenant of Works...that is to say, THE LAW for each believer.

The balance of that is that we are being daily conformed to the image of Christ...if that is so, then the visible evidence of our election should be that we reflect the character of Christ...i.e. we keep the law BY NATURE, and not by commandment.

The question that will come up again and again is as follows: IS SALVATION BY GRACE OR BY WORKS.

Answer: Both ~God's grace, and Christ's works.~ Nothing about us there.
