  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I made the decision before Ash Wednesday that on Wednesdays and Fridays during Lent, i would only eat fruits and vegetables...no bread, pasta, rice, fat's, etc...anyway, though i am making efforts towards concerted prayerfulness (which hasn't quite kicked in to be honest, though i am going to Adoration) and almsgiving, i am wondering if this is enough...it feels enough for me to cope with, but i wonder if this type of fasting 'counts'..what do you think? I am thinking that i may continue with this fasting regime (is it still fasting to cut out everything but fruit and veg) long after lent is ended, it's taking an enormous amount of will power, but i am feeling it to be beneficial so far..not perhaps for those who happen to be downwind of me  ...(hey, i'm foolin...i don't do things like that, and i am never vulgar and crass :)help: i'm fibbing :sorry: )

Of course it "counts"! Yes, if it is beneficial to you, and helps you actively mortify your desires and helps you cling closer to God-- by all means keep it up!

If you are trying to increase prayer time-- it is helpful, I find to give up television or the computer for one or two, or more days a week....

God Bless!

I think that when we start worrying about, "what counts", we start to lose the true meaning of fasting and almsgiving.

If you feel that it's being beneficial in your life, then I think you're on the right track.

I've been not eating during daylight hours. I'm just waiting for someone to use this to prove that Christianity is "derived from Islam". I just figured it would be hard, but not unhealthy (I do drink water during the day), and would keep me mindful.

I find myself wondering if it's not a bit much, which suggests it's just about exactly right.

I know what you mean.

If we don't push ourselves further than the 'comfort zone' sometimes, then how are we going to reap the many benefits of drawing nearer to our Lord, through the small 'pain' of our sacrifice?
