  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My prayer life is a chaotic sea of trauma dumping to God, comprised of a mixture of telling God whatever is on my heart and mind and set traditional prayers.

Often my prayer consists solely of the Jesus Prayer, "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner." It's not always the full prayer, sometimes it's just bits and pieces, "Lord have mercy", "Have mercy on me", "Lord Jesus, Son of God", "Jesus". The Apostle St. Paul reminds us that the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. So whatever is lacking is, I know, filled by the Spirit who takes my chaotic and troubled mind and heart and bears it in Christ before the Father.

On a side note: Prayer is often seen as one way whether we think of it that way or we just simply behave that way. Prayer is a time for listening and many of us need to learn the art of being naked before God with just silence (without words to cloak everything). Truly, it is the hardest thing to sit in silence and to feel that the Lord just accepts you in Christ and desires to spend that time with you. We interrupt his love for us with words and we fill the silence with ourselves rather than just resting and listening. Be advised its hard and you will discover just how much you may not be able to silence your own voice, but its worth it - to be still and know that He is the lover of your soul.
