Adults have such imaginations! It's unlikely that the little girl could have described her imaginary friend in such detail that she could be definitely identified as a specific child like that. It's more likely that she described her in genreal terms like, "She had blonde hair and a blue dress," and that kind of description could apply to any imaginary friend. It's probably the adults who filled in the gaps and made the imaginary friend into the dead girl.
I remember once I saw an apparition, and described her to my mom, who then discussed it with my grandma, and so on with all the relatives, and they decided that I had seen my great grandma who had just passed away, and they took me to the funeral home to see if it was the same woman, and I wanted to please them so much that I said it was, but it wasn't.
Kids are notoriuous for that.
