Boy, if you don't know who she is, that could be a little disconcerting, trying to imagine what I am writing about! :D Just in case you don't know, flylady.net is a site which helps people bring order to chaotic places in the home -- those trouble areas that never seem to get clean or stay clean.

My daughter had complained to me that her house was chaotic, as a working mom with a husband, a teenager, a preteen, and a toddler. Just the day before, I had heard of the FlyLady, so I told her about the site, not knowing what it was myself. She got on the site and really latched onto it, using it daily. I admit: her house looks 100% better, and she is "religious" about following the recommended routines. She told me I should try it, but I pshawed it.

Last night, however, after cleaning most of my house from top to bottom, I thought, "Why not?" I got on and ended up printing out a bunch of her pates for my personal use and joining!

One of the things it will help with is contsant preparation, looking forward to Pesach!
  1. So I am wondering if anyone else here is a member?
  2. What do you think of it and does it work for you?
  3. In what ways have you improved in keeping up wiht housework? How does it show?
  4. Have there been any negative (like junk advertising in your emails or anything else)?
Obviously, I have not yet received my main mailings, so I am curious.

I'm considering joining so that I can get a head start on keeping up a home before I get married. I love the concept. I just spent an hour reading members' personal stories or Random Acts of Kindness! I was inspired to make a file of RAK ideas so that I can become more of a servant of Yeshua in this way

I've checked out the site a few times in the past for random hints - but never had the energy to put the full program into use. I will probably sign on when we get moved into the new house in a few months.

I've heard that she has helped a lot of people get their act together, but I'm not sure about the whole wearing shoes thing - I hate shoes!

Hey the "dress to the shoes" bit actually makes sense to me. My chore in my apartment is the trash and recycling which forces me outdoors (and it's still cold here! so no barefooting it). Dressing to the shoes really allows me no excuses when it comes to what I might have to do during my day. I don't like wearing shoes all the time either, but the theory is great.

I'd actually have a pair of slip-ons always in one place so that if I had to do a chore and didn't have my lace-up shoes on, I wouldn't have an excuse and could go take out the trash by just slipping on the other shoes.

Yeah I keep a pair of flip-flops by the front door for "emergencys" :) But I'm seriously considering banning shoes in the new house. Carpet will last a lot longer that way.

Of course I'm a work-at-home-mom (WAHM) who deals with clients via email and phone, so I can work in my pjs if I feel like it. On the days I take my daughter to the parent/tot swim class I work in my swimsuit half the morning. :D I'm not sure if the fly lady would approve of that - but it does streamline my mornings.

I had to laugh when I saw your post, Zayit, saying "I don't think I could get past the name, especially around Pasache ;) Flies were one of the plaques, and I personally hate them with a passion!" That was nearly the same response I gave to the "FlyLady"! The thought of flies is hard for me to take. I go nuts if one gets in the house, chasing that thang down until I am victor! YUCK!

And that is what kept me from the site all this time. I finally did it, though. I haven't read why she calls herself "FlyLady" yet, but I hope there is a clean reason! Eeeeeoooooo!

She talks about "flying lessons" and similar things, but her little icon is wearing something that looks more like butterfly wings!

She used to teach fly fishing and when she signed up for the Sidetracked Home Executives forum, she needed a user name and some of the other posters helped her come up with "FlyLady" because of here love of fly fishing.

AH, well flies made from feathers I can stand, I will have to give it a look. I think I know what the shoe talk is about you get more work done when you are fully dressed like you are 'going to work' even though it's only in your own home, rather than hang out in bathrobe and slippers all day till an hour before hubby comes home ;)

Hee-hee! The closest thing I ever did to fly fishing was a fabulous Springbok jigsaw puzzle that was nothing but fly fishing hooks! Hard, but fun, and those things were beautiful! They made me want to learn how to make them -- not to fish but just to look at!

Well, FlyLady was supposed to send me an email, but they didn't. I found out what I was supposed to do today, but it was already done. Good thing -- I went to work early and came home late.

If I ever did this, I would have to avoid the shoes thing. I am a true southern girl, you know barefoot to do yardwork. I HATE shoes. If I could go shopping barefoot I would. OK anyway, tell me how it works out, I may join and then maybe I could convince her to start a "Redneck Flylady" page.

  3. Have there been any negative (like junk advertising in your emails or anything else)?
Obviously, I have not yet received my main mailings, so I am curious.

Hello! I love the FLY LADY!!

1. I think it works if you work it. She is so encouraging because you never feel behind. Well, you might, but she is always saying, "You are not behind, jump in where you are". I like that approach because the only pressure that we feel comes from our perfectionism. Flylady talks about this a lot. Another thing that she encourages us to do is to learn to Finally Love Yourself. That is the key, I think, and the thing that seperates her program from others.
2. Baby steps. I have been a member for 3 months now, and have only gotten a few routines down. Shining my sink, getting dressed from head to shoes, and making my bed daily. These three routines have helped me a lot. I know that I have a ways to go, but each routine I add keeps me feeling better about where I am at at the moment. I have also found her decluttering tips to be a great release.
3. There are a lot of email from her, but the reminders can be deleted once you have read the subject line. I have never gotten junk mail from her site.
Hope this helps. Good luck on your new journey of learning to fly.
