What do I really think of Robert Jordan? Honestly, I try not to... ;) Long-winded has already been mentioned, so I guess I'll just add my vote to that. I wonder what's provoked this neverending, painful series?
a. He's become overwhelmed by the number of subplots, and honestly doesn't know how to end the tale and satisfyingly tie everything together.
b. The publishing company wants more money, and since WoT sells like hotcakes they've commanded Jordan to extend the series to 20 volumes (thanks to some brilliant contract loopholes).
c. (my favorite) Jordan and Terry Goodkind made a bet to see who could drag their series out the longest.
d. none of the above (insert your own hypothesis here!)

Just my 2 cp... :p

At first, I thought he was long-winded and boring. All my friends where reading the books and said, I needed to read them. So, I pick one up!! It was so hard to read by the 2nd chapter, I put it down. A year later, another friend asked if I had read it, I said "I tried!'. She said they are good, I said they are not. I told her Edding is good, have you read them and She had not. So, I said, "if you read Edding, I will read Jordan". I did and I loved them. I guess I just had to be in that frame of mind.

I just find his characters tiresome. I gave up after WoT book #3.

But you missed the best part! I forget if it's number 4 or 5, but Rand goes to a place in the Aiel Waste where he gets to see the past in his world. I won't spoil it in case you decide to read it, but it's the best part of all the books (I think!).

The same thing happened to me with Salem's Lot by Stephen King. Only it wasn't because it was boring though. I started reading it on Halloween and got too scared to continue!

By the time I waded through 4000+ pages, my brain was deadened to any ancient history/flavor text Jordan decided to toss out. Yeah, it was interesting about Artur Hawking and whoever else was involved (I'm surprised that after 10 years I still remember any of this), sure, but it just seemed like flavor text really... By that point, I was getting really annoyed with half of Jordan's characters and looking anxiously for at least a glimmer of hope that things were drawing together; instead it seemed that the subplots kept piling up and the supply of Foresaken villains was endless... 2000 pages later it didn't seem like Jordan was having much success bringing any of these threads back together. Did the main story arc ever manage to dig its way out from under the rubble of all those subplots? How many thousands of pages does it take for Rand to be consumed by his power? It seemed like he was at the end of his rope in the 6th book! [/rant]

I made it up to book 9 or 10. I read number 10, I think, got to the end and said, what happened?

I'm so done until he decides when this series will end, and then I"ll just pick up the last book and read the last chapter.

That's what it takes to get through his work. Momemtum.

Hmm, you know, that's a good point. In high school, I read them through a few times and loved them. Then I stopped during my freshman year and never got back into it.

So, I"ll have to wait when I have a wide open space of time to read, and then jump back in again.

You might want to wait till he's actually finished the series also :)

That's what I'm waiting for.
