Are you ecumenical? Think catholics are heathen? What about Amish? :)

I mean on the surface you look to me "a military style christian church" :)
so, what makes you unique.

Now I run away...................

(k there are 2 questions really)

I think God calls each Christian to serve in a different part of the body of Christ. The Army has a specific mission. To take the gospel to those on the margins of society, and to show His love to a loveless world. Other Churches have other work to do. I think the body of Christ is diverse enough for every one to find a place where they are comfortable.

There is only one Church. We are a part of that Church.

i was born into a salvation army family and spent the first 5 years of my life at the army. the only thing i can really remember was the carpet as i'd sit on the ground.

we then moved to a town where there was no salvos, so we went to the community church there which was joint uniting and anglican and whatever else turned up.

at 16 we moved to darwin where there is a salvation army which we attend.

if we are on holidays we still go to church. we tend to go to the closest thing to the salvation army that we can find, usually anglican or uniting.

i havent' been to a catholic church though and the more out there pentecostal churches scare me.

I've had my concerns about individual churches, and the theology of some denominations (either 'i don't agree but I don't think it's made completely clear in the bible' or 'i think that point of doctrine contradicts the bible') ... but generally I'm happy to live and let live, and even visit :) The Salvation Army fits MY idea of what God wants from me better than any other churches I've attended. But I have been known to tell people to not feel guilty about leaving a SA church to go elsewhere... they're all part of the body, and they all do different things... if the Salvation Army is the hands, should it really look down on, say, the Anglicans for being the brain? (I make those analogies because the SA is best known for its outreach, whereas Anglican church is probably best known for its theology - many anglican churches I've visited say they are 'bible-based' in their doctrine, worship and teaching. But anyway, it's just an analogy! :) ) And maybe some people who were born Salvos can best follow God's calling in another denomination, and vice versa.

To quote an extremely wise old Colonal, we are all climbing a mountain. There are differnt ways to climb, giving different experiences on the way up. But it's the same mountain, and it has the same peak at the top.

Which is pretty much the same as what the gaffer has already said, so I'll just say that I agree with her.

Excellent. Boy does the world, and Christian churches, need more like you. That's far better than, "We've got this right and you've got it wrong because..."

i also would like to understand the Army better. I always give at christmas time and i admire from afar the work you all do. This isn't likely to happen with me soon but it i felt GOD's call to do this could i remain a good and faithful Roman Catholic (attending Mass almost daily) and work in / become an officer in the Salvation army?
