I've heard that the next bill Brown is introducing is to change the Union Jack into a pair of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]. There is going to be a battle between the tabs between whose it should be.

I'm going for Michelle Marsh.

A pair of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]? How about Brown and Blair.. ah, too easy.

I'm sure with Brown's whale like proportions, he has his own fine pair of [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse].

True story this, I saw Brown sunbathing on a beach last summer. Everyone was trying to push him back into the sea.

I'm here all night!

Well, not any more since Gordon Brown has wiped his backside with it.

Do you know how Lib Dem MPs voted out of interest? Crazy these days, that the conservatives seem to be more on the left and more liberal now, than "new" labour (just!). It was a master stroke by Blair and Brown back in the 90s, turn labour into the conservatives, keep the socialist voters and gain the youngsters and the undecided voters. Just goes to show, far too many people support their party like they would their football team. Apparently even BNP were against the 42 day detention. It says something when your government have turned even more authoritarian than BNP on an issue like this!

As far as I know, the Liberal Democrats all voted against. And that is part of the reason that I believe the Lib Dems are the true Left. New "Labour" have totally abandoned their principles.

I consider myself a Labour voter by heart but recently I think they've abadoned me.

If you're a socialist Labour abandoned you in 1997. Before Blair (a tory in socialist clothing) turned up on the scene, the voters had a true choice between left and right. Realistically, we don't have a choice now, thanks to Blair. I have no idea, even to this day, why he decide to join the labour party. The labour party in the Neil Kinnock days, would have NEVER brought in Uni Fees.

As it happens, I'm not in favour of left politics (it's destructive for the economy), but I am in favour of more liberal laws.

Myself, my girlfriend and my regular debating buddies (real world) came to the conclusion recently that the closer one gets to power (real power) the more right wing ones policies become. Whether there is any real truth in that I don't know but that is how things seem.

And that is part of the reason that I believe the Lib Dems are the true Left. New "Labour" have totally abandoned their principles.

The Libs are no different. In Cornwall we are run by the Libs. We have no Tories and no Labour MPs. However the Libs were essentially brought into power on the promise of a Cornish Assembly, modelled on the Welsh Assembly. Once elected this policy was abandoned and an undemocratic Unitary Authority was pushed through. The Tories, on the other hand, seem to be trying to weasel their way back in by commissioning a Minister for Cornwall.

I also think that the UK no longer has a Working Class in the same way we did 20 or 50 years ago. A traditional Labour/Socialist grounding no longer exists and Labour at least reflect this.

Though I agree that Blair did abandon socialist principles, AFAIK, he was at least fairly progressive. I was only 8 when Labour came in to power so obviously I don't know much about living under a Tory government, but I think it's significant that New Labour, for all its faults, brought in things like the minimum wage, abolished section 28 and gave us civil partnerships (not good enough but it's a start) and has defended legal abortion.

What's to say that it doesn't happen again?

It might do, but I would rather have a situation where the police have to actually put their necks on the line if they want to lock people up without a shred of evidence. I like to think our police have moved on since those days though. Now, by law, they can lock someone up for the best part of 2 months with no evidence, and no comeback on them if they have accused the wrong person.

Yes you can trust the police and government.

Really? Apart from all the examples of where the police and government have failed to be worthy of our trust, why would we even have checks and balances, or democracy and the rules of law for that matter if the people in charge are so trustworthy?

42 days sounds fine to me if it keeps everyone safer.
But it really doesn't because it only fuels the the terrorists' hatred.

If it keeps me safe from terrorists, I'm all for it. Only the guilty mis-trust the police....

For example, the city I live in, there were 360 complaints made against the police by Citizens.

Yet, the police had over 350,000 contacts with members of the public. 350,000 contacts and only 360 complaints....sounds like a fantastic satisfaction rate to me.

So, you can trust the police, ...I don't trust the people who are afraid of the government or the police....who I must remind you are simply our neighbours and community members who happen to enforce the Nations laws for a living.

So, if your scared of your neighbours and community members, it's about time that you look in the mirror...maybe we should be afraid of you!?

And you are safer if every convicted criminal is never released, but killed on conviction (so they don't even have a chance of escaping).

I mis-trust the police because I mistrust people's 'good will'. I have talked face to face with one police man, and he too is sick of the justice system.

Maybe you just haven't been betrayed by authority before (that you know of).

Yes, yes you should be scared of me. Why...? Because I hold a certain joy is destroying the fantasies people have built to live in so that they can see the reality of the world.

Though actually I have come to trust most members of my community, then again, members of my community aren't in a position of power and wealth which any materialist person would go though some extremes to keep.
