if i said i dont download mp3's and burn cd's i would be a hypocrit, i dont think its wrong for the reason that its Christian music sending a good message to ppl, but it is wrong because it is "stealing" the creation and work of artists, am i right or wrong or both? dunno let God decide...

and personally if i had a Christian band i wouldnt mind at all ppl getting my music for free as long as the message gets to them, its about making music for ppl to enjoy and because the musicians love making the music, not about making money from music where would the passion of making music be in that? money is nothing it is made to be spent

hmmmm...i think if i was a christian artist iwould care if my music was being burned. especielly because most of the people who would be burning it would already be saved, so it wouldn't be spreading the gospel or anything. What would spread the mesage of christ better is if Christian music was not burned to show to people that we are diiferent. Thats not to say that i haven't burnt music myself! maybe i should pray about this issue, but I haven't given it much thought.

I don't think it's really that big of a deal, but I just bought the Switchfoot and Casting crowns CD, which the Switchfoot one I already had burned, and the Casting Crowns one I could have easily burned from my friend. However, I decided that, hey, if they have good music I should support them by buying it, which I did.

I don't see a problem with it, it is perfectly legal in Canada, even to distribute as long as money isn't changing hands.

I think it spreads the message and any real Christian artist I believe would support that. Artists deserve to be rewarded for their works and we should be supporting the Christian music industry, one way we can do that is through promotion, letting our non-Christian friends listen to the music and allowing our Christian friends to experience new bands.

I used to allow people to "listen" to my CD's, but when I found out they were burning them, I asked them not to, because Christian Artists need our support. To be truthful, burning of any complete CD and giving it to someone else is illegal. I usually burn mix CD's, with a sampling of two or three songs per artist, and distribute them to some of the teens at my church, then direct them to the Christian bookstore I bought the CD's from.

It really takes money from the artist......Just sow into their ministry.....the secular artist are making a killing from their recordings and for us to burn from our artist is basically stealing
Then we would be stealing from secular artists, too!!! I don't like how we're treating secular music as a step down from Christian music. Jesus treated theives and liars like his and friends as his equals, and it would be outrageous to call secular artists theives and liars, but we're treating them as inferiors.

I think it's alright. If you have a friend from school that would never buy a christian cd anyway, what's the problem in burning them a christian cd? Maybe in the future it will help influence them in buying some more christian music-which would never happen if you didn't burn them the cd in the first place.

I used to think exactly the same way, so your point is very valid. However, where do you stop? one CD, two, twenty? Have you ever stopped to realize that people are watching everything we do (as christians)? Burning CD's is sort of in a gray area, so you may be doing more harm to your testimony than the good that you think you are doing.

as a musician, im in the position where i think it's wrong. Unfortunately, ive burned over 1500 CD's for my self, but im already starting to buy some of the ones that ive already burned. I have heard some artists talk about how they make almost no money from the sales of their CD, so they say go ahead. It is a good thing for artists that are not as popular to have free downloads on their websites so that they can build a fan base. But after all the work one would put into an album, i wouldn't want people getting it for free.

I think that it's not such a great idea...and it should be something you think down of...but there are some bands that want you to do it...if they say to do it...go ahead...one such band is Flatfoot 56...they want you to copy their stuff and get the word out...a band that you shouldn't do that to is Newsboys...few people HAVEN't heard of them, so "getting the word out" abou them is NOT such a great idea.

hey brother, rock on with the paintball!!!!

I have some friends in the recording buisness, and they all laugh when people tell them that burning music is bad because it hurts the band;

the reason being, and correct me if you are truely informed, the bands do not actually see any money from the individual CD sold. The band sells either an albulm or a track to the recording company/people who distribute the discs, and they get paid so much money for each song or track sold to that company, depending on their current popularity.

The reason we dont hear this from the recording companies or bands themselves is because they have contracts in which both are making money so therefore they have no need to try to screw the other one over.

So when you burn music you are just taking money from these huge companies that can really afford the loss, and the bands arent effected either way.

I believe that it is fine...they give us CD burners for our PC's...but we can't use them??!!??!?!?!? Man, how wacked! I know it is KIND OF cheating out the Christian musicians...but IF THEY ARE DOING IT FOR GOD, THEY WOULD LIKE IT IF MORE PEOPLE GOT THEIR CD...regardless of their money! I burn CD's and give them to my non-Christian friends...so, is that bad? I know you are asking the questions...but I think it is fine. I don't have a license...but I do it for my friends...they do not know that Christian Rock or rap...or pop...or worship is as good as any Korn...and a lot of things that bring THEM down [not anyone else...just them] I like giving them stuff that will lift them up...touch them.

Well, that is my 2 cents worth!

Your Sister In Christ,
Heather
