What do you think of AI generated music, such as SoundRaw and Udio?

  • Coolest thing ever!

  • This is scary...

  • This is a major threat to creativity.

  • Its like playing the slots. Can be unpredictable.

  • It can be a useful tool, but anything it generates we should make it own (not publish as is).

Artificial Intelligence is now being used to generate music. Some see this as a good thing, others see it as very negative. What do you think?
I recently was trying out Udio. The first time I tried a song I've written called "Let There Be Light." What it came up with was... strange.
Then I tried the lyrics of an old hymn (There's a Home, Weary Soldier), and after a few attempts it came up with something decent... even though it wasn't in the key specified or had bagpipes as requested.
Then I tried the "The Song Before the Throne" (Holy, Holy, Holy), and what it came up with was... horrendous.
So my experience has been a mixed bag so far. I'm planning on rolling with the AI generated version of "There's a Home, Weary Soldier" with some added instrumentation. To be used for the ending credits for each episode of "An Epic Journey Journey Through the Bible." Or should I slam on the brakes and reconsider using any AI generated music?

What I have done so far for "An Epic Journey Through the Bible": The narrations were generated in ElevenLabs, but the music is all composed by me. 0% of the music so far is AI generated. Should I keep it that way? Or do you think its okay, if I add more instrumentation making it my own?

We have too much AI stuff nowadays. The internet is getting over saturated by AI generated stuff, so maybe pump the brakes on furthering your journey into AI. For myself, I use AI as a tool to write devotionals, which is not a form of art.

Man, I LOVE AI stuff like this. I've been writing lyrics for 30 years, and have always wanted to turn them in to songs. I've been blessed to have about 5 of my lyrics turned in to songs by various bands, but when you've got the writing bug you just want to do more and more. I have used Fiverr to pay for someone to turn a few of my lyrics in to songs, but that's quite expensive to do lots that way.
Then AI comes along and it's like.... "Put your lyrics in here and I'll turn it in to a full song in 10 seconds!" So, I've been doing that for a few months now, and have done about 150 songs. The quality is lacking, that's for sure, and it's not something I would want to sell (for monetary gain), as it feels like cheating, BUT the joy of hearing your lyrics sung is brilliant! I do share a few of them with friends, but it's more like I write christian stuff, then turn them in to songs, then listen to them and sing praise to God.
I do think it will be detrimental to bands, so I think we should all be cautious, but some of the stuff it comes out with is amazing.

It is a double-edged sword. I love AI for helping to understand Bible verses. So, which songs have you made with Fiverr? Could you share your human sung songs, and a few of your AI sung ones?

I don't support it and it's meant to undermine artists snd circumvent royalties. The music industry is eager to get on board and is using several puppets to promote it. The most notable example is the Drake vs Kendrick Lamar rap battle that occurred a couple of months ago.

Drake included an AI version of Tupac and Snoop for a track and was asked to take it down by Tupac's estate. He didn't have permission to use his likeness. Allowing anyone to sidestep that is wrong. Generating profits for the same is unethical and should allow legal recourse.

As a fellow creative I take my work seriously and won't permit the same. If you want to play around in the privacy of your home that's fine. But the moment you upload it, post it on social media or try to make a profit you should expect a problem. They have the copyright and you don't and it isn't fair use.

The proliferation of strikes on YouTube for using other people's content should be a warning.

Acoustic song from a real band.

Song done through Fiverr

Here's a link to one of the A.I. songs.
Thank you. I like the real one over the AI one. The robot sounds a bit too artificial, though the beat is pretty cool and lyrics have good meaning. :)

If you ever have the resources, send the AI one to a real band, and then they could record it with a real rock band.

It looks like Praise and Worship music, so I’m not even willing to listen.

There is only one area where I think AI could help with composing music and that would be in assisting conductors of classical music with the very complex task of orchestration, ideally integrated into a composition app like Finale.

I don't like AI music. It's simply feeding from popular/mainstream styles and I don't like popular/mainstream music.

It's not real "AI" anyway.

Real people with real intelligence don't always follow what's popular or mainstream.
