• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've been taking some medicine as per the direction of my doc for over a year and a half now.( I don’t want to name the pills as it worked initially ). At first it kind of worked, it cleared the horrible "black cloud" from my head (I always call it a "black cloud" when people ask!), made it easier for me to think. But it didn't make me happier or anything, I know that's for me to work on over time, I've been taking the pills for so long now and my life has come full circle, I feel almost as bad now as I did when starting them! What do you take and is it working for you, do you notice a difference?

I'm on Espiride for anxiety and depression. The depression has gone and I'm really positive but that could also be because of circumstances. The anxiety is alot better then it was but not completely gone but I do have another tablet that I can take on the odd occasion if I'm really anxious.

I've been on Lexapro for about a year and a half. I started on 5 mg and now I'm on 40 mg, the usual dosage being 20 mg. It's helped take the edge off of my depression and anxiety. No matter what medicine you take, you're going to still have to fight it. My Lexapro just helps me get through the day.

I'm on Parnate (along with 5 other meds). It's working better than anything else I tried (all the SSRIs and Effexor), but it's not working great ...... I've got dysthymia, and my psych is going to fiddle around with a different AD, I think, to see if that will get any better.

:sigh: :swoon:

First off, I would NEVER recommend for anybody to do what I have done. But over the years I took so many different things, seems my doctor was always switching meds for me. The only thing I really ever agreed with them about was the diagnosis of chronic major depression and anxiety disorder.
It took many, many years but now I am trying to go at it with nothing! It's hard and I'm alot more to myself than I used to be so I'm not really outgoing anymore at all but much more of an introvert.
I'm doing ok but still wonder if I'm doing the right thing? Depression is such a hard thing to deal with!

I take Effexor & Wellbutrin - it works for me.

I have taken meds in the past that worked for a while, but after a while I got accusomed to them, or they just stopped working - something, and I had to switch.

I would recomend seeing your Dr and possibly switching to something else.

since nov 2005 i've been on lexapro and adderall, prozac and adderall, back to lexapro and risperdal, and then the final and hopefully the last effexor and risperdal. i got tired of being a guinea pig and my psychologist wasn't helping so i changed psychologist and took myself off the meds for now and hopefully for good cause I felt it was God's timing to do so. i have nevr felt better in my life than when i got off the meds. what i'm trying to say by saying all of that is if this is God's timing for you to be off meds then you will be ok WITHOUT them. april:amen:  :groupray:

Hi all

I'm on Abilify (20 mg as 30 mg was to heavy for me) for my psychotic symptoms, which at first only worked partially, but after the ECT treatments I got, it started to work much better.

I also take Lithium (1500 mg) and Lamotrigine (200 mg) for my mood swings/depression. I have tried all anti depressants but only Luvox I can handle, 25 mg is the maxium I can take.

My meds are doing the job at the moment.

In the past I have been on, Zoloft 200mg, Trazadone, (i cant remember the dosage), Prozac(ditto) and now I'm on Abilifty(15mg) and Lamictal(100mg).

The zoloft at first helped my depression part, but then it got worse and the zoloft did nothing. So my doctor took me off of that and put me on Trazadone and Prozac. THe trazadone kinda helped, but the prozac just gave me panic attacks(which I still have..stupid prozac... )
So then my doctor took me off of those and put me on Abilify. THe abilify worked well, but the panic attacks were still up and going....so my doctor put me on the lamictal to help with the panic attacks and to assist the abilify in controling my mood.

THe two together really help me alot!!
