What do you like to read?

I'm an avid reader (don't have cable so I don't watch tv) and was wondering what you folk like to read. I'm sure the Bible is top on your list but what else is on your bedside table?

I'm currently reading a fiction by Mark Andrew Olsen entitled The Assignment. It's an excellent book of suspense.

I'm also reading Captivating by John and Stasi Eldredge. Ladies, if you haven't read this, this is a good one for you. It's subtitled...Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman's Soul. I've gotten John Eldredges Wild at Heart which is more directed to the men because I thought that I needed to see into a man's soul too. I haven't started it yet.

Oh my,I love both fiction,read the 12-book Left Behind series this spring,and non-fiction,re-read Corrie Ten Boom's "The Hiding Place" recently. Now reading "Prayer,Finding The Heart's True Home",and started "Through The Gates Of Splendor,and waiting anxiously for "Practicing His Precence', and Mother Teresa's autobiography"The Life Of Teresa Jesus".

Enjoy some secular occasionally as well Dean Koontz for one. Also, Richard Preston " Hot Zone" ,"Demon In The Freezer", "The Cobra Event".

Anything but romance

Actually, I am a big sci-fi, fantasy fan. LOVED the Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever by Stephen R. Donaldson. I really love the way Tad Williams writes and right now, I am reading a new fantasy series by Sarah Ash called Lord of Snow and Shadows.

As far as Christian writers I like Francine Rivers (The Atonement Child was one of the best) I also like the writing of Ted Dekker though I find his books are quite predictable

I like to read Romance novels., westerns, animals and mysteries. I have several books from Kathleen Eagle, Cassie Edwards. Larry McMurtryI also have all the Black Stallion novels. Right now I am reading a CSI novel

I've read one by Dean Koontz and can never remember the title...the one where the dog and monkey escape from that labratory...very good one. Ever read any Stephen King, I've read all he's done I think...some a few times.

Ahhh...so if I speak of Louis L'Amour you'd be familiar? I've read a few of his books, in fact, my Dad before he went to heaven got me turned on to westerns. I think that all stems back to when I was a teenager watching westerns with him on Sunday afternoons.

Yes MXII, the Chronicles of Narnia are my all time favorite books!! I have probably read them at least 10 times. I think that with fantasy/sci-fi, you're either REALLY into it or not. It is not a genre that you can kind of take or leave. I guess I have always been a bit of a romantic and love the epic battles between good and evil which seems to be the premise in all fantasy/ sci-fi.

Have any of you read any Frank Peretti? He is kinda like the Stephen King of Christian writers. His books are really well written. His novels - This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness are really excellent books and remind you that there is a spiritual battle going on around us.

I love to read biographies, especially of missionaries, etc. I find it very encouraging to read how God has moved mightily in their lives yet, like me, they were just ordinary people.

Have any of you read any Frank Peretti? He is kinda like the Stephen King of Christian writers. His books are really well written. His novels - This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness are really excellent books and remind you that there is a spiritual battle going on around us.

I read Monster by Frank Peritti recently...it was very good. I give it heehee...

I get the impression you like C.S. Lewis..heehee. You have a varied taste in books, kinda like I do. Kindred spirit. How is the Sola Scriptura book? That sounds interesting.

I have also read "Lightning" which was very good,and it seems like a couple others that I can't recall right now,but oh wow,I have never forgotten Frank Peretti's spiritual thrillers "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing The Darkness",also enjoyed "The Prophet",have you ever read "Celeste Perrino Walker", her books, "Prayer Warrior","The Guardians" are very similar in style to Frank Peretti's.

I am kind of on a Lewis kick right now. Another time it will be Piper, Stott or Horton. Just depends.

Basically, I just like to read. Interestingly enough - someone else mentioned Stephen King - I pretty much draw the line at his books. I started Salem's Lot in college, scared the *%@* out of me (one of the very few books I never finished reading). Haven't read anything of his since - didn't want the nightmares.

Watchers...that's it. It's been years since I read that book and still can remember some of it.

I had started reading the Frank Peretti This Present Darkness and Piercing the Darkness and never could get into them. I just read his Monster and loved it...strange huh?

I hear ya about Stephen King. I remember when I was reading Insomnia...I got insomnia...very strange.

If you like the creation/evolution argument (which I do), I just picked up a book yesterday that is filled with information supporting creation. Darwin's Demise by Drs. Joe White & Nicholas Comninellis. There are a lot of facts by scientists supporting creation and negating evolution. A lot of books I've read on the subject of creation just seem to state that it happened this way...believe it or not. I like facts, not that I don't have the faith to believe it happened the way Genesis portrays it, but cold hard facts fuel the faith.

So many books...so little time
