If I knew for sure whether the HyperThreading functions of the new P4s were limited to SP2 or whatnot, then that would be my choice definitively. I've only used P4s at my grandfather's house (which isn't all that impressive, but that could be because of the presence of SP2), and then at school, which I'm not sure of the version they're using, but the speed of those is enough to warrant drooling over.

Barring a new P4 or Pentium-class, though, I'd gotta stick with one of the Celeron classes. I've never had problems with mine, and it doesn't heat up so much that I could cook toast on my computer case...unlike my parent's computer.

oh... i was hoping that there would be AMD64 diehards, not only are those 64 bit to begin with, they are cooler(temp wise), more effecient, and more ecconomical. ever look in the sunday advertisements? you can get 64 bit dual core stuff for way cheaper than the high end pentium D's...

ummm uhh I thought it was asked " What everyday processor would you use, given infinite money? " It does not take infinite money to run what I have everyday. I have piles of systems since I am a certified techie. My fav in posetion is the amd64 which I am typing this up on right now... yeah way overkill *yawn*

Quad Xeon rules! About the only real thing I like from Intel, Xeon.

I've got a P4 w/ HT running at 3.20GHz. It's ALMOST as fast as I want, haha. If I had a choice, I'd go with a nice AMD 64, one of the most powerful ones out today so I'll be able to run WinVista even if I never upgraded my CPU after that. =)

I've got a really old system that was mostly free (And stil serves me very well)

AMD Athlon 950+ MHZ (lol!)
It's quite amazing becuase I can run BF2 (on low X_X) fairly well, 30-45 FPS, It says you need a P4 2.2 GHz, XD

I plan to upgrade to an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 939 with a gig of ram, but I don't need to yet.

teehee.
