Hi
Just thought it might be a good idea to share different things we do when having a bad day or night. It helps give others ideas that could help them through and it never hurts to have more ways of coping.

I'm a outgoing person by nature so sometimes it is really tough not being able to go out. I worry about what opportunities my son will miss out on. Sometimes when he is at his mums (six weeks a year) I struggle. There is a lot that revolves around him such as getting meals and getting him to school and specialist appointments so when he is away especially for three weeks over christmas period it is tough and I wonder what to do with myself. When I recognise that I try and put into action a plan I came up with earlier.

Sometimes it just helps saying out loud "Now is not the time for these thoughts". It was first suggested by a counsellor as I was having trouble sleeping shortly after separation.
I have a couple of friends I can call almost anytime. Two am is pushing it but midnight is fine. This means even if late I can still talk to a person and will usually be cheered up.

If things are really tough I am lucky to have a sister who I can usually either go to her place and chill out knowing my son is safe there or will be looked after if I need to go somewhere to get away for a few hours.

Anyone got any tips they find helpful?

When things are tough and seems I cant carry on, I cry. I do not want to endure it by being strong on the outside. I let it out. But after that, I would stand up and tell myself not to cry anymore. I pray a lot as if I am telling God what went wrong. It makes me feel better.
I've certainly had those days. At one stage I was so down I thought I would never laugh again. Thankfully I am past that. I have just a few days ago started saying things I am thankful for and find that is good for getting my controls under control.

When I have a day where I just need to hide from the over whelming reality of providing solely for my daughter (no help from her dad, and little help from those around me) I usually put the hardest music I have on, plug in the headphone and crank it up.
Phenix (my daughter) knows, if Mommy has her headphones in, she needs a minute.
Thankfully she is old enough to manage much on her own now
