Well, you have impressed me with your knowledge of the Second book of Corinthians. Bravo.

Were this supposed to have some other effect?&nbsp;Perhaps to abandon science when its results conflict with our dogma?

I do especially like&nbsp;2Cr 10:5 (KJV), the part about "casting down imagination." There's no better way to create a horde of mindless drones than to stifle imagination, creativity, and individuality. "bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" should streamline our educational system quite nicely...


And let's not forget the NLT, and it's mention of "conquering rebellious ideas" against God. Considering that political monarchy is based on the philosphy of Divine Right, does that mean our founding fathers are in hell for that little spat against George III back in 1776?


But the RSV is even better: "We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle to the knowledge of God". Notice that it says nothing about refuting or disproving the arguments, only destryoing them. The language leaves little to the imagination, which we've already&nbsp;thrown out anyway.

And how, I wonder, are we supposed to "destroy" arguments? The word inquisition comes to mind. Ah, those were the good old days...

These passages to affect my belief in evolution. I'm a stronger defender of it,&nbsp;it's veracity, and it's right-- no, it's need to be taught, more&nbsp;than ever before. Thank you.

*sigh* Mr Booth, she asked&nbsp;how those passages affected my&nbsp;opinions on evolution.&nbsp;and I gave my answer. Perhaps I was a tad harsh, seeing as how I have strong opinions on this subject, and the pursuit of knowledge in general. Let me try it again, without Rant Mode.

Dorothyne cited these particular passages specifically asking how they affect evolutionary theory. Please allow me to give my opinion:

My opinion is that her quotes from the Second Book of Corinthians constitute an Argument from Authority and have no place in a scientific discussion.

&nbsp;My opinion is&nbsp;that the passages in question exemplify the sort of thinking that is intended to discourage the search for knowledge in favor of the comforting illusion that all the knowledge we'll ever need has already been found. I've referred to this in the past as the "shut your mouth and do as you're told" school of theology. A Strawman? Perhaps. But I'm willing to admit to the oversimplification.

I do apologize for my initial harshness, but when I saw her starting a thread in a scientific discussion forum&nbsp;using only the Bible as evidence, I assumed she was trolling, and reacted instinctively. I now know this is not the case.
