I have heard all manner of scathing attack on this man and his ministry. Yet at the same time I have heard of a couple of healings from anecdotal evidence through his ministry and I believe the gospel is being preached at Hinn's crusades.

What I have not heard much of though is a perspective from the P/C side of the debate. Anyone here have a (respectfully posted) opinion here about the man and his ministry? Do you believe the man is genuinely anointed to heal? Are his prophecies and teachings acceptable or are they errant? is he simply trying to operate in areas that are outside his gifting by preaching and prophesying? Do you believe the criticisms are more a result of certain ministry practices that need to be fixed up?

I could go on, but please, feel free to post your thoughts and opinions and in a spirit of grace.

cheers,

I've watched Benny on and off for years. He's a good evangelist. His doctrine is sometimes wacky. I think he does bring peopel to God. But I've also wondered what his crusade does to ensure that those who have come to Christ get into a good, bible based church and get the discipleship they need as new Christians.

On a sided note: One day I was flipping through the channels and ended up on PTL with Crouch and his wife. They, Benny, and someone else were sitting around a table that had stacks of neatly banded money stacked about two feet high. They started praying over the money, holding their hands over it, everything. I realize they were probably praying for God to use this money to further His kingdom here on earth, but it was spooky to see that.

 Greetings from a sunny South Africa

I have never met the man, nor attended one of his crusades or services. his exposure to me is limited to what is shown on the TV. Based on that, Benny seems to be a very nice person who proclaimed Jesus to be his Lord and Saviour. That makes Benny my brother in Christ and we all know that BLOOD is thicker than water. Touch him and you touch me as well as my elder brother called JESUS.

I like Benny Hinn, I don't watch his program regularly and I have never been to his crusades but I have read one of his books and have watched him on TV infrequently and I have also read some of the criticisms leveled against him by his critics and overall I think he's a man of God.
He can come off as being a little goofy but can't we all and as I've said in a previous Benny Hinn thread I will never come against him since if even one of his miracles are legitimate then I am in judgement of him and I try my best not to judge anyone elses ministry.

I saw him in crusade two years ago. He preached the gospel and there was nothing that raised a "red flag" in my spirit.

However, Paul and Jan Crouch were there and Hinn abundantly praised them for their work with TBN. I mean abundnantly... Too much. But, as far as the message and the healings, things were acceptable. While sitting in the nose bleed section, the Lord did speak to me. It's much easier to pick up on revelatory things in the Spirit, when there is an atmosphere of God's Presence and the Anointing. The Lord spoke to me concerning that the devil was a coward... I know this doesn't sound like much, but when it exploded within me, it released a certainty about our vitcory over him through the Lord Jesus! Had nothing to do with Hinn's preaching, other than, like I said, there was an atmosphere of the Glory of God in that place.

I spent several months this year taping his show....watching it for the purpose of discernment. I never once heard him say anything that caused a check in my spirit. I think some of the slaying in the spirit on the stage causes some to pause....he addressed that once..."You may ask me, why do they fall down?" "I don't know...but when I get to heaven, I'm going to ask the Lord." I don't see the necessity of doing it over and over again, but I won't judge. I transcribed his sharing of the gospel....word for word to test it against the scripture. It passed with flying colors. I know you can read all kinds of trash from the self-appointed church police about things he may do in the flesh things or some things he has spoken. All I know as I watched him in India sharing the gospel to the best of his ability given the restrictions they placed, I felt I had no right to judge this man proclaiming Jesus to 5 million souls as I sat in my pajamas eating a bowl of cereal. Yes, we're to watch for false-prophets, but his gospel message and invitation would have fit in any Southern Baptist church...and that, I should know well! Who's to say the false-prophets aren't those teaching a God without power?

Well this statement has sure given me pause. Has anyone ever seen Benny Hinn fall down? I don’t know. I don’t watch him that much. But in all the times I have, I never have seen him "slain" and have often wondered why.

Just curious?

When asked why people in his meetings fall down, Rodney Howard-Browne replied, "Cause they can't stand up!"

Jim M: yes, thanks for clarifying the "sucking up" thing.

I understand that Benny has had some extreme experiences in God way back when as he first visited and later followed in Kathryn Kuhlman's ministry (back in the early 70's maybe?).

It's been a long time since I read, Good Morning Holy Spirit.

I remember the controversy that surrounded his book “Good Morning, Holy Spirit” when it was first released (early 90s?). I owned a bookstore at the time so I heard a lot about it in the professional journals. It created a furor because, somewhere in the book he inferred that each member of the Trinity was a trinity (or something like that), making a total of nine in the Godhead. Boy, did that create a stink among theologs and opened himself up to a lot of (often unfair) criticism.

To his credit, he later admitted that he was no theologian and that he was wrong and all future editions of the book omitted the controversial passage.

Does anyone besides this old codger remember that?

I was once told a long time ago, "Never get your theology from an evangelist...they don't got none."

While the statement's intent was mostly facetious, there's a pearl of wisdom to it also, IMO. While we all have giftings, and different giftings, and access to all the giftings, we don't have all the gifting all of the time. And being able to recognize that, in my estimation, takes wisdom, discernment, and humility, and courage.

So with people who God has gifted the signs and wonders 'power' ministries like Hinn...accept him for what God has given him. In areas where he hasn't been 'gifted' (yeah Jim, it takes our discernment :) ), such as the heavy theological stuff, I don't get bothered much over it.
