  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Just tell him the truth :) I usually tell my kids that if everything goes alright- mommy's womb will hug and push the baby, and then mommy will push the baby out of her vagina. I dunno- I have just always preferred to use actual, real words for body parts instead of slang.

Now that my oldst is 9 1/2 and starting to have questions about puberty- it has been good training for both of us- so he is not embarassed to ask me questions, and I have had some conditioning in not being embarassed talking to him.

My kids have never used the words inappropriately- or in an inappropriate time or place.

I agree also... except that with my youngest kids I said "women have an extra hole that the baby comes out" and transitioned into the real words when they got a little older. Also, I have a ton of birthing books in my house and most of the kids have looked at all the pictures at one time or another (which also leads to More questions. ;))

i've honsetly been kind of hedging the question... part of me is afraid that he will say something at school, he doesn't seem to have much impulse control, and says and does stuff that gets him in trouble... so when he has asked I have told him that I would tell him when he was a little older... was a little shocked when I asked a relative what they thought I should say and they said to tell him the baby comes out of my belly button... ummmm that would be fine if I were having a c section...

When my sisters were little and they asked that question about a friend of my mothers, she gave them two answers. She said that (Remember now these were girls that loved cabbage patch dolls), when the baby is ready, the doctor takes the mommy to a waiting room where the stork is called to make sure she is ready and the baby is then brought in.

The other one she told was that the baby came out of the belly button.

But once they realized they both got two different answers (they were twins) they begged me to tell them the truth, and I did.

Tell the truth. My 4 year old knows where babies come out. She's watched those birthing shows. She came with me to all the prenatal exams and would have been at the birth except that my son came really, really fast. This is a perfect opportunity to start off with open lines of communication with your son about bodies and sex. Just tell him that mamas have a special hole called the vagina that babies come out of when they're ready to be born.
